Washington Babies

bummed I missed j&k+8. here's why... (longish story, but kind of funny)

I had a dentist appointment yesterday.  Yes, that's why I missed the show.

I hate the dentist, big phobia.  James's awesome insurance is about to run out and if there was an issue, we don't want to have to pay out of pocket or have to pay a huge co-pay with private insurance.  So, I "grew a pair" (haha) and went a couple weeks ago.  Amazingly, shockingly I had no cavities, but since it has been almost 10 years (yes, Gasp! and Gross!) since my last cleaning, I needed a deep cleaning - scaling.  I was scheduled to get half of my mouth done yesterday.  I was so nervous/anxious/nauseous that I took a xanax that my dad gave me.  I've taken them before on a rare occasion for situations that make me extremely anxious.  Anyway, my appointment was okay.  I thought I toughed it out pretty good, but the dentist afterwards asked me if I have ever considered sedation dentistry, so I guess I didn't do as well as I thought.

Anyway, the point is the xananx knocked me out!  I got home and was asleep on the couch within a half hour.  I didn't eat dinner or anything.  I woke up to kiss Tillman goodnight and then again at 8:30ish to go to bed.  I slept all night - even through my alarm.

Hopefully I'll catch a re-run.

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.

  • I feel for you! I hate the dentist as well and it has almost been that long for me too.

I am sure you can see the Jon and Kate trainwreck on youtube.

  • I'm sure there will be lots of re-runs!  I'm glad there weren't any cavities to report!  You really should look into sedation dentistry, it sounds like something you would really benefit from.  I have been watching my dad go through tons of dental work and he now doesn't have any top teeth and has to wear a denture.  Implants will cost around $25k!  Its crazy expensive to have your teeth worked on so I try to go every 6 mo even though I HATE IT!  I really hate spending money on my teeth more!

  • I feel your pain.  Scaling is the worst.  It's like, "Can you jab that thing any deeper, Dental Assistant Mengele? Because it doesn't hurt at all.".

I have looked into it, and it's just outrageously expensive. I'm going to try to be better about going, I just need to schedule it for a day that there's not some sort of trainwreck on TV I want to watch afterwards.

  • Yeah, I once skipped the dentist for a few years and had to do scaling as well.  It was awful and I don't even hate the dentist.  I have been very, very diligent about going to the dentist ever since.

  • get a sonic care for maintenance! does wonders for your gums/plaque.

  • I do have one, and I think that's the only reason they didn't turn away in disgust when looking in my mouth.  I guess even the Sonicare cannot compete with ten years of not going to the dentist.
