Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When did your LO not have to be held all the time?

I cant get anything done! She cries when I put her down unless she falls asleep in my arms and then I put her in swing or crib. She doesnt even sleep as much as she should be, maybe 12 hours in 24 hours, if that. Ive tried putting her on the playmat, bumbo, swing and crib awake and she lasts maybe 2 min. I need  to do things that I cant just put her in a baby bjorn to do, like shower, eat, cook, work out, etc. When can they be ok by themselves for a while and play?

  • sounds like we have the same baby. mine is not a fan of sleep.

  • I don't think I can be of any help. My LO has never needed to be held all the time. He enjoys hanging out and exploring. On the other side, he is a horrible eater and it is always a battle making sure he is getting what he needs. I guess each baby just has his/her set of quirks!
  • She stopped as soon as she could really hold herself up and play on her tummy.

  • 3 months was a big turning point.  I used to hold DS all day long... when he was sleeping, when he was awake.  Do you have a mobile?  DS loves his Tiny Love Symphony in Motion one.  And he used to tolerate his bouncer too for a little while.  Those two things allowed me to cook or wash dishes really quick when he was younger.  Now he can play by himself for a long time at 4 1/2 months... jumper, bouncer, gym, etc.  I used to shower while DH was home and eat one handed... sandwiches or leftovers while I was feeding DS.  Do you let your DD nap on you?  She might sleep longer that way and be less crabby.  Also, I hardly got things done during the day, pre-3 months.  I would just do it in the AM or PM or weekends when DH was also around.
