Early on did you alternate breasts or feed from both?

At the hospital they told me to try to give both breasts each feeding...  I was trying that, but then it seemed to take forever to finish a feeding, and he seems to fall asleep after the first breast and I hate to wake him just to get him on the 2nd breast.

Is alternating breasts each feeding a bad thing (so only 1 breast per feeding)?  

Also- if I plan on pumping so we can do a bottle feeding or two a day, should I start pumping now and pump the 2nd breast?

    Such a cutie!  I would have to unlatch her (ouch) to re-latch on other breast. I did 10 & 10 and she was satisfied! I started pumping the 2nd week. I would def. pump the other side right after if you can. You'll get alot for your stash. GL w/ BF its the best!

    My guy only took one at a feeding - he still does unless it's first thing in the morning or just before bed.  The LC at the hospital said to always offer the second side but if he didn't take it that was fine.  Just offer the other side at the next feeding.

    The first couple weeks we always did both sides but when my supply got regulated he only needed one and I pumped the other.

    At first I did only one side, because he fell asleep, but ds didn't gain weight quickly, so I went through the whole wake him up to eat the second side thing.  My supply was also pretty low, which I don't know if that was b/c I wasn't feeding off both sides, or just b/c ds was a very lazy eater, or for some other reason.

    I started with the 10 minutes or so on both sides then after i also regulated I would do one at a feeding and remember which breast I used last

    we did both breasts for a while during feedings, then did alternating after that...sorry I can't remember around how old she was!

    It depends on how hungry she is.  I start with one and if she isn't satisfied and I feel empty I'll give her the second but if she only eats from one I pump the second to build my stash.
