Red round spots...do you know what it is??

In the past 2 days, R's developed these red (white in the center) round (circular but some bigger "splashes") rash spots on his thighs and upper arm areas, some on his torso too....It's gotten worse so we're planning to take him this afternoon the pedi....does anyone know what this can be??  He does not seem to have any other symptoms, I'm guessing food allergy?  But he didn't really eat anything out of the ordinary.  With Roseola, the kid should have a fever first, right?

HELP!!

    Maybe ringworm?

I think ringworm should be more localized.  He doesn't have a fever?

  • Are they raised or flat? I get horrible reactions to mosquito bites and that sounds exaclty what mine look like (if they are raised).
  • They sound like hives.
  • Caroline actually just had something that sounds very similar (she also had a cold along with it but could have been teething or coincidence)... the pediatrician said it was just a virus that worked itself out of her system.  It didn't classify into any specific rash condition ie. measles, chicken pox, 5th disease etc...it didn't itch her so he just said not to do anything about it and it's almost cleared up a week later.  Good Luck!

  • We just went through this and it turned out to be a bad case of hives.  The spots you have described  are how the hives started for my DS.  Our doctor gave us benedryl and a steroid to help alleviate the hives which were an allergic reaction.    I would get your little one checked out.  Good luck!
  • Ringworm is pretty well defined.  It sometimes looks scaly or patchy in the middle.
  • DD just got over ringworm. Her's was not localized so don't count on that to rule it out. Her's was round spots that started out looking like pimples. Within a week they grew larger and the largest of them ended up with the white in the middle. The red outside looks scaly. If that is what it is, don't freak out. It is easy to treat. We just had to get an over the counter topical ointment from Walmart (the stuff used to treat athletes foot), like Lamisil or Lotrimin. Pedi said we likely picked it up from a stray cat that lives around us. They are asymptomatic carries. It cleared up in a few days and she's had no other problems! Good luck!
