Lansinoh before baby?

I never did this previously, but heard the other day that putting Lansinoh on every day a week or two before your due date helped lessen the pain of begining to nurse? I never tried to "toughen" my nips before having baby, I know it doesn't work... but was kinda curious when I heard this. Has anyone tried it?

Re: Lansinoh before baby?

  • I didn't use any before having the baby, and I don't use any now, and I've never had any problems.

  • I heard this too and did it beginning about a week before my due date.  I don't know whether it helped in any way but my attitude was that it certainly couldn't hurt anything!  I used Lansinoh religiously in the first few weeks after every session but use it less frequently now.

  • I used it for the few weeks before my due date.  I don't know if it did anything because my nips still killed when I first started nursing.  But I also used it after every nursing session for the first few weeks and it helped a TON!  Now I don't need it anymore.

  • I asked my lactation consultant about using Lansinoh and she said not to use it if my nipples weren't cracked or dry. She said to just express a little milk at the end and rub it on them because it has natural healing properties made to lubricate the nipples, and that sometimes if you use something like Lanolin when you don't NEED it, it will inhibit your body's natural responses. She said at the end of our convo though that it's my choice and I should do whatever makes me comfortable, but that was her recommendation.
