Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I have to say, I feel bad for Kate.

**Warning:  spolier below.  (sorry, lhuttinger)

I know she's a royal_bitch, but I do feel badly for her.  I've only seen the last 10-15 minutes of the show and it's quite clear who's pushing for the separation.

I can't believe Jon said, "I'm hurt and excited at the same time because I have a new chapter in my life.  I'm only 32 years old.".  Sounds like he's more interested in going out and sowing his wild oats vs. manning up and taking care of his family.

  • I couldn't agree more. I think he is in a very selfish place right now and just is thinking about the things that he "can't" do because he is married and has 8 kids.  I agree that she can be a huge BiT#& but I can only imagine how badly she is hurting right now
  • I absolutely agree, he seemed almost giddy to get the heck out of there. And his saying "I could get a job", etc...is almost setting himself up to move away.

  • Today I promised myself that I wouldnt watch anymore shows or read anything else (even on the nest) about JK8. I feel like it's their personal life and I need to stay out of it. Then I started to watch tonight and was in tears. I am not a Kate hater and have a knot in my stomach for what she is going through (what their whole family is going through!). It's so so so sad. So from now on.. no more JK8 for me.

  • ITA. I like Jon far less than Kate at this point. She seemed genuinely sad and almost broken, and he just seemed relieved to be done. He's thinking more about himself and the fact that he's only 32 with 8 kids, etc....She seems to be more about the kids.

  • I feel nothing for either of those idiots.?

I would have pulled the plug on the TV show before smearing my family's dirty laundry all over TLC.

They're both fools. I hope those children sue the *** out of them one day. ?

Yes, they are.  The papers were filed in PA court today.

Not to be insensitive, but I called this months and months ago.  And nobody believed me.

    Completely agree.

  • I don't feel sorry for either of them, I feel sorry for the eight kids that are stuck in the middle of this fiasco.  They are the ones that are truly are/going to suffer.  They are the ones that did not chose to be in the spotlight and have thier lives on tape. I truly feel bad for them because I believe, IMO, that they are going to look back and resent what their parents put them through.
  • I feel sorry for Kate more than I do John... man is obviously sick of everything like caring for his family or trying on his marriage.  Ultimately  though it is her kids I feel very bad for.  They both claim to be there for them and to have done all of this for them but IMO it is better to have a happy family that is poor but rich in love than rich kids who are ignored and used as pawns.

  • I couldn't agree with you more!
  • All I could think was that if this is the price to pay the show is not worth it. But both of them were still all on board with continuing the show. When a TV show becomes more important than your marriage and keeping your family together that is sad. What are they even going to call it (if it even continues)? Kate Plus 8 and Jon Plus 8 on the Weekends?
  • honestly, i really believe kate is so fake and just knows how to manipulate people. i mean, she sat there and said it's not the show's fault they are breaking up. whaaaat?! if she were not in tv, would she really have the funds/interest in getting her nails done, wearing heels to take the kids out, the tummy tuck, etc? no! she would be the same person who sat in her sweats playing with her kids.

john just got to see how she treated him over and over again on reruns and see a nation of watchers start to feel sorry for him and how she treated him.

i don't know who is right. besides, it's kind of weird her brother and sil are trashing her in the media...

  • I'm sorry but I do have to say, after how many years of being screamed at by that shrew, he seems excited not to be berated. He does. I would be too.

If it were a man treating a woman like that on TV, we'd have called it abuse.

It's a sick situation, they both need help and she's a nutcase.

They both need to turn the cameras off, get their family some counselling. Get some individual counseling, and move on. But divorce as publicity stunt is vile and neither of them are worth any sort of pity.?

  • Haven't watched it yet but I just wanted to say that I have felt badly for her all along.  I get that people don't like her (I personally do like her) but that doesn't make what Jon has done any less hurtful.  No one deserves that.  And wow, he's excited??  At 32, he should be old enough to care how he has and is hurting his family.

I'm with Lanie.  They didn't have to go on tv and give everyone their sad story on how they are separating.  The best part of the private interviews was them saying they bought the 1.1 million dollar house for the KIDS, the do the show for the kids, everything is for the kids yet neither of them talked about going into couples therapy so they could see if they could work things out to keep the family together.  Also, I love that on the show that they had to tell the nation about them getting a divorce & their family breaking apart  that they were able to still do a product plug for those little houses their kids got for free.

    I agree!

  • I don't feel sorry for her any more than I feel sorry for anyone whose marriage is ending. Overall, I'd say she is very good at manipulating people, hence all of the new found sympathy this season. She is smart. She finally realized most people think she is basically a big witch so she is trying to improve her image and sell more books.

I have to say, I'd be a little bit excited too if I were Jon. I think she was borderline mentally abusive to him at times. I have watched pretty much every show from the beginning (sad, I know) and while I think neither of them are perfect, he truly tried to live like she wanted and then stay out of her way. Kate was always good at going on and on about everything she did, how hard she works, blah blah blah -all while sitting in her folding chair, criticizing and shouting orders at Jon and the kids.

The kids are probably better off. At least now they won't grow up thinking that kind of behavior is acceptable between a husband and wife.  It was a horrible example.

    Word. :)

Honestly, they're both media whores who lap it up. John seems past the point where he cares if people blame him, and Kate is putting up a front that puts all the blame on him.

People who care when their marriage is in peril, don't travel around the country to promote their books, don't sign for another year of 24 hour video surveillance and take a good hard look at their own issues.

I have an amazing relationship, but, if I put my family in that position, I doubt even we would survive. Stupid.

Ditto. No I don't see it as Jon v Kate. They both suck. She is a b!tch and some people rooted for a long time for Jon to grow a pair and stop taking her sh!t. I guess it's happening.

  • I don't feel bad for Kate at all...yes, he's taken it, but she has pushed him SO far over the last few years that of course he's shut down!  What else would she expect?  If you constantly berate someone and belittle them, eventually they are going to have enough, and I think he's at that point.  Him being excited about a new chapter in his life doesn't mean he doesn't love his kids or won't see them.

I think her tears were more about the unknown of the future and change vs. actually not being married to Jon anymore. And that this means that this is probably the last season.

  • yes!!! completely agree. this is exactly what i was telling dh.
  • I definitely don't care for either of them anymore, and it's those poor kids I really feel for. But he has just turned into a grade-A a-hole in the past months. I think he read all the "Jon could do so much better" blogs and believed it. He really seems to be pretty into himself. I'm sorry he didn't want 8 kids, but you're a grown man and you have them, so grow the hell up. He had every opportunity to speak up for himself over the past 10 years. I hope he does get a job so he can stop p!ssing away the money his kids are earning for him on new sportscars and insanely expensive apartments. I don't believe for a minute, however, that he ever objected to not having a job. Please.

  • Yea, no.  Don't feel sorry for either one of them.  They wanted fame and fortune and they got it.  Besides, I think she roped an aimless guy into marrying her, and then I think she pretty much forced him to have this huge family, and then proceeded to brow beat him week after week on national television for four seasons solid.  What did she expect?  I'm not saying it's right or good, but unfortunately about 99 out of 100 guys in that situation would ditch their wives.  Yes, he was a big wimp and didn't stand his ground soon enough, and as a result dug his own grave, but to a certain extent, you can't fault the guy for not wanting to just lay in it once he realized he was there.  I don't think Kate is a monster or anything, but you won't catch me feeling sorry for her any time this century or the next.  I mean they complain about what has happened, but what did they expect??  Have they been in a cave for the last 15 years??  Nothing good EVER comes from parading your private life on reality TV.

  • I do feel sorry for her, even though i have been a hater in the past. I just feel like the way he is acting, no matter how she did treat him, is completely and utterly selfish. The quote from the OP is what stuck with me too, about being 32..obviously he is ready to go party! I mean, come on. Grow up. You are a father of 8. Maybe you didn't want anymore after the twins and Kate convinced you and now you got 6 more. But you know what? He could have stood up for himself back then. And that is his own fault. I have said all along that he was a wimpy guy, who just wants a free ride. Is she the nicest wife ever? NO. Was she mean to him? YEP..but I am sorry, he has 8 kids and is acting like he is only out for himself. Obviously he is the one who wants the divorce. Obviously he is the one who is not willing to work on it anymore. So for that reason, I do feel sorry for her. She is not even getting an opportunity to make it right with him, for all the times she did him wrong.

IMO, you have to earn your way out of a marriage. (I speak from experience, as I was married before my wonderful DH to a not so wonderful guy). You have to put your blood, sweat, and tears into making it work, going to counseling, doing whatever you can do. And then if it still is not there, move on. But Jon isn't willing to do that. I don't know about Kate, but it sounds like she really wanted to try. Maybe she is manipulative..but she had me convinced.

  • I'd like to understand how/why some feel badly for Kate. Do you talk to your husbands the way she does or scream at your kids? Do you belittle your family, say nasty things and roll your eyes at your five year old?  If so, ok - maybe you think that's normal.

If not - let's hear some REAL reasons, not just 'he needs to be responsible for this kids!' or 'He just wants to party down!'. Who says a father can't be responsible for his children while still wanting to be divorced from an abusive wife?

Let's turn the tables and pretend that we'd been watching this abuse from a man toward his wife and kids for the last 3-4 years and see how up-in-arms everyone would be.

  • I honestly don't feel sorry for either one of them. The only people I feel sorry for is their children. I come from a divorced home, and being the kid in the middle is not fun. I feel Jon and Kate used their children for wealth, and that's something they should feel guilty about.

I felt bad for her, too. He seemed so detached. It's very clear there's no love there for him anymore. It's really all so sad.

It would be interesting to see what this new living arrangement will be like - the kids stay and the parents swap out for visitation?

  • Couldn't have said it better!!!!!  I am a fan of the show, but now it is just so sad!!! :(
  • For those who feel bad for Kate, have you actually watched the show? She is verbally, and some might say physically, abusive to Jon. The man cannot finish a sentence without her correcting him, yelling at him or mocking him. She smacks him a lot, and I'm starting to see this behavior directed at her kids. I agree with Lanie - if Jon were behaving this way towards Kate, everyone would be screaming spousal abuse and telling Kate to get out now. Why is Jon the bad guy for wanting to escape this awful situation?

Not that I feel bad for Jon, either - he's emotionally reverted back to a 21 year old frat boy and does seem more eager to move to NYC and start a new life than he does to make things easier for his kids. The way he flippantly said, "Well, I might get offered a job and everything could change" bothered me. I would hope he'd consider location and being close to his kids if that were to happen.

The whole situation sucks, the show should just end and I feel awful for the kids.

  •  I think Jon was referring to doing the TLC show when he said ""Well, I might get offered a job and everything could change".  I think he is committed to his kids, although I do think he was pretty detached yesterday.  As for Kate, I think the way she treated Jon was terrible but I feel bad for her, no one pictures this for themselves. The comment she made about being a statistic made me cry.
  • Yes, he was talking about how the show would be filmed, as in how often he'll be at the house with the kids. I took him to mean that he might be offered a job out of town and he might not be able to be at the house for the show, i.e., not spending time with the kids.

  • They sold their souls to the devil when they decided to PIMP their kids for money via a reality show.  It is hard enough being a family of 8 kids (biracial kids no less) in this day and age without your parents pimping your every move for money.

I am sorry for the kids.

If he didn't work until after college and assuming he graduated at 22, then maybe he worked what, eight years?  WOW.  Eight years!  Huh?
