Depends on your Dr/hospital, probably. I'm at the point where I would love to be, but the hospital policy is that I must have a medical reason.
I would say this. But, I'm sure there are lots of doctors out there willing to do it....
My friend's doc gave her a c/s upon request all because she was afraid to push (she scheduled it months in advance. So, I'm sure it's bound to happen.
Good LORD. That doctor should lose his/her license.
My OB (with my first) was actually pushing me to have a c/s. He "thought" DS was going to be a big baby and didn't think I could handle labor. Such a jackass. My DS was 7lbs and I handled labor just fine. But I found out later he did this with lots of his patients because it's easier to plan. I would have LOVED it if he wouldn't have even been there for my DS's birth!
At our hospital, unless there is a medical reason, there is no way someone can get induced unless they are at 41w (being a center for high-risk pregnancies, etc., everyone is done at 41w and the OBs will induce you at that point). I'm glad that they won't consider it until then.
And yes, I'm glad I know exactly how long my pregnancy could last. ?
I assume your in the boston area? I know like 20 women who were induced ON their due date - so ask your doctor if you want - pitocin makes labor MUCH harder - so think about it.
My doctor is willing to schedule an induction so that she will be present for the birth. I asked, because I was worried that if I delivered over the holiday weekend that she wouldn't be there. She has a great success rate for vaginal twin delivery and I am worried about an unknown dr. who is knife happy.
She allows scheduled inductions, but wouldn't even make the plans, absent medical necessity, until I hit 37 weeks, and the induction would be at 38. She explained that 37 weeks for twins is the same as 40 for a singleton. She gave me the choice of scheduling an induction v. a section, but said that she did not recommend the section.
I think that it is common to ask if you go past your due date.
Actually, I heard in my Child Birth Preperation class that if you don't deliver between 8 AM - 5 PM & your Dr. was not on call then more than likely your Dr won't be the one who delivers (obviously) but for some reason that scared me because she kept telling me she'd be there. So I asked her & she said that she had a note on my chart to call her if I go into labor, even if she wasn't on call (I've been going to her ever since I was 15) but that if I was THAT worried about her not being the one delivering, then we could always schedule an induction. & I have heard from lots of people it is safer that way. Then again you DO run the risk of LO not being ready & then you push & push & wind up having to do a C section. So I'm still debating it but my advice to you is ... Ask your Dr. Some will, some won't. You'll see.
My doctor didn't ask my opinion on induction...she just said, "we're going to schedule an induction around the end of June"...I'm due the 4th of July, and being induced this Friday the 26th! I'm freakin out!
All of the women in my family (my mom and all my aunts) have been induced because of the size of the baby. Example: my brother Simeon was born two weeks early and was 8lbs 1oz- YIKES!
The dr. (same practice) noted that in my chart and will do some growth scans starting at around 36 weeks to see if I will be the same as them. I guess that's sort of like asking for an induction...

I know!!
The funny thing is, is that we are very rural too.
I just found it very strange. Then again, our area is very affluent as well and I think it was just more convenient for everyone involved
Yeah, I'm quite certain that if I told my Drs this, they would be sympathetic, but tell me to toughen up!
