what did you do during your final days of pregnancy?

i'm getting extremely ... dare i say...bored waiting for the waiting game to end!  i've got pretty much everything done on my to do list - sterlized bottles, packed hospital back, nursery is all done, laundry is all washed.  hubby and i have gone on several dates during the week already and i dont know what else i can do to occupy my time!  anyone have any suggestions??  what did you do during your final days of pregnancy?

Re: what did you do during your final days of pregnancy?

  • Good question!?

We've been going on lots of walks, trying to keep the house in decent order, going to movies, I got a bunch of books from the library and am reading about a novel a day, baking, going to the mall, trying to enjoy a little "me" time before that's an impossibility, snuggling, yoga, napping, taking as many baths as I want, grocery shopping (you can fill a lot of time doing that if you keep forgetting things like I do, or indulge every passing fancy/craving you have.) re-reading the labor sections of all my pg books (especially Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn by Penny Simkin) gardening, going to the beach/arboretum/greenlake, listening to music and making note of things I want to have on my ipod for the birth and/or want to sing to my baby when he's born... Mostly I'm just trying to really enjoy this free time while I have it.

    Good luck! Enjoy yourself. :)?

  • One day I sat on the floor with a toothbrush and cleaned every tiny little spot off the carpet downstairs. ?I also saw a bunch of movies at the theater. ?But most of the time, I just complained that I was STILL pregnant:).

  • Law and Order marathon :)
  • try everything known to man to try and make myself go into labor!  Ha!  I wish I had been able to sleep better but thinking back I would have laid around watching lifetime all day knowing that my days of being able to sit and watch a whole movie were coming to an end!

  • I had a hard time getting anything done, so I was scrambling (from my recliner), but what I did besides pack a hospital bag for each of us, was to put together a support basket--flipz pretzels, water bottles, a deck of cards, word search puzzles etc. just in case anyone waiting on us got bored or hungry.

I also had a baby booklet made with hospital information -- welcome letter, important numbers, where to find food, directions, wifi spots and so on.

And as a side note: the absolute best thing I took to the hospital was a thin camping air mattress...not the big ones, but the ones that go under your sleeping bag. Those couches are really uncomfortable.

  • My c/s was scheduled for the 26th so I made reservations at Palisades for the 24th. Our last date as just a couple.

Nathan was born on the 12th.

The moral: go out to nice resturants every night until you give birth.

  • haha!  thanks for the suggestions ladies!

    so far, i've tried

    -baking

    -watching TLC/Bravo marathons

-date nights almost every other day and seen a bunch of movies (Up - which I strongly suggest seeing if you haven't seen it yet!, Drag me to Hell - MH dragged me to it, and the Hangover - funny)

-grocery shopping almost every other day

    - re-reading labor and birth sections from my pregnancy books

    - finally finished our wedding book

    - organized every room in the house

    - washed all stuffed animals in baby's room

    - lined the kitchen shelves

    - daily mid-day naps

    - starting to read books on baby's first year

    - started a scrapbook with baby shower pics, ultrasound pics, preg progress pics, etc.

    -pedicure/manicure/haircut

hmmmm....what else can i add to this list?

  • Well, we recovered from the f'ing windstorm that left us without power for 5 or 6 days, then got the house ready for Christmas in record time and my whole family flew in for Christmas, we wrapped presents, made cookies, waited for Santa, etc... . :)  We were plenty busy.

Walked miles, everyday!! We walked so much it was ridiculous. I should still be doing it, but alas...too tired.

I also washed, folded, seperated, and boxed all of M's clothes according to size. I put all of his 0-3 month old clothes in the bedroom. Put 3-6 in one box and 9-18 months in another. (18 month on the bottom, 12 month in the middle, and 9 month on top). I found that I was really anal in the last weeks.

    Cleaned my eentire house.

Ate a lot of junk food and had a lot of sex.

Wow, just realized that that was probably TMI. Sometimes my fingers do the walkin', without my brain. Oh well.

    Stick out tongue

I did this EXACT same thing a couple months ago. My 6-18 bin is even ordered top to bottom. :)?

  • After I had everything organized I probably spent a lot of time relaxing and doing absolutely nothing. I knew I wouldn't have the time to do it after and was too gigantic and fat to do much :)

  • I had her early before I was really ready but one thing you could do is make some meals for the freezer. Before I went back to work I made mini-meatloaves in muffin tins and bagged them up for 10 easy meals for the freezer. I wish I'd made more stuff but those meatloaves were awesome to pull out for dinners.
  • I had a c/s scheduled for a Wednesday.  I worked til that Friday before and our families arrived in town that Monday so I was busy cleaning and prepping for their arrival (stocking the house with food, etc.).  I repacked my hospital bag and made sure we had the car seat secure in the car.

I would go get your hair cut, get your nails done, take a bath, take a nap, relax, have a glass of wine (yes, you can!!) and just enjoy the quiet.

This time around, since we have a toddler, I'm going to prepare a bunch of meals for the freezer so we're ok with dinners for a little while.
