Hello! I'm a longtime Nestie/Bumpie. I have 3 yr old DS and an 18 mo old DD.....and now expecting B/G twins in September? Are there any other multiple mommas on here? Is there a local MoMs group that you are involved in?
Also, has anyone had babies in the NICU at Comm. North? Likes/Dislikes? I'm planning to deliver there, but delivered my other two at St. Francis, so I'm not familiar with the NICU there....thinking about the worst case scenario and if I would want the babies transferred to Riley, should they need a high level of care. DS was in PICU at Riley, so I'm a little biased now. Let me know your thoughts/opinions.
Thanks!
Re: Anyone with twins? and a NICU question
Hello! I have a set of b/b twins and I delivered just a little over 32 weeks. My boys were delivered via c-section at St. Francis and both stayed just about 3 weeks in NICU. The NICU nurses at SF were great and very friendly. I have no complaints.
What side of Indy do you live? There are MoM's groups out there and several around the city. I live on the southside and there is a group here. I am very new to it all and have not been really involved in the group yet.
Welcome and congrats! I didn't have twins but our son was in the NICU because he was born early.
It looks like the NICU at Comm North is a level 3, so that's probably (hopefully!) sufficient for your little babies - and if needed, like you said, they could be transferred to Riley!
Our son was at St. Vincent Women's and I can't say enough good things about that hospital, but that may be too far away from you. I loved being there and our son did require the high frequency ventilation that a lot of the NICU's don't have, and it saved his life!
Our son's primary nurse (at St. V Women's) also works full time at CN though, so hopefully if you're at CN you'll meet her because she is incredible. (It's "Lynn".)
Congratulations!
CHN NICU is a Level III, although when I worked at East in L&D a few years ago, they didn't take babies under 26 weeks, I think. I believe they would also transfer babies with complex cardiac issues. It might be different now, I don't know. Their neonatologists used to be associated with Riley as well.
One of my friends had identical twin boys at Comm North. (She is an L&D nurse there also.) She was high risk and saw Dr. Dungy-Poythress through there in addition to her regular OB. Was in the hospital for awhile on bedrest and mag, then wound up delivering at 31 weeks 5 days. Both were in the NICU for awhile and did well (and are fine now.)
I'm doing fertility "stuff," so there is a chance I will have multiples if I get pregnant. I'm weighing options as well. I'm really far from St. V's, so I would go to either Comm North (where my OB is now, and where I see my RE) or Clarian North (still kind of far away though.) Most likely I'd stick with Comm North, and if I had some really high risk stuff I might do IU/Riley.
No multiples here, but I delivered DD at Comm North and loved it! I was borderline IUGR and saw the doctors at Maternal Fetal Medicine weekly. I LOVED Comm North. Everyone was wonderful there, the rooms are quiet and private, and I also liked all the security measures they have in place.
We didn't have to spend time in the NICU (thank goodness!) but the nurse that came down to check DD at birth was great.
TTC #2 since 9/09 --- mild PCOS; Endometriosis
IUI x4 = BFN
IVF = sometime in 2012
My brother and SIL have b/g twins who were delivered at 31ish weeks each weighing a just under 3lbs. They delivered at CN (delivered their singleton at North 2 years later). She was on bed rest for 2 or 3 weeks at the hospital before the twins were delivered.
They have nothing but great things to say about the CN NICU. They knew a couple of the nurses (1 was a friend of my brother's from HS and another was the wife of a friend of my bros) and I have a friend who works in the NICU.
GL and congrats! and like Mel, I remember you too
Hello. I have boy/boy twins. I belong to the Northwest Mom's of Multiples group here in Fort Wayne and I know there are a few other chapters througout Indiana.
My boys were born at via c-section at 32 weeks and spend about two weeks in the NICU. I'm not going to be much help with hospitals since I delivered here in Fort Wayne.
Thanks for all the info ladies! And I feel so loved...it's especially fun to see all the 'oldies' on here. I've been a nestie for nearly 6 years, I don't know how I'd survive without all of you!
I'd like to think I'm pretty prepared for all this by having two singletons, but this pg has been nothing like my other two....I'm glad to see others here with twins as well, as I'm sure I'll have more to ask in the coming months!
Thanks again - it great to hear such good things about CHN.
