Hospital Bag Advice Needed

I am preparing to pack my hospital bag.  I have a general list of things to put in but was wondering if there is anything that you took with you that you are really glad you had?  Or, was there anything you didn't take, but wish you would have?  Also, what do you recommend taking in terms of clothing?  I am planning on taking yoga/pajama pants and t-shirts.

  • Well I ended up having an unplanned c-section and was very glad i had packed some of dh's boxer shorts, because i couldn't wear anything that close to my incision and i also couldn't fit into any of my pants b/c i was so swollen. I was also happy i brought lots of hats/socks for my baby b/c the hospital hat was ugly and they didn't have any socks. I was also glad I had brought baby mittens along cause my girl really likes to scratch herself! Oh one more thing - shower caps. I was glad to have these while i was in labor so i could get a shower w/o worrying about my hair getting all wet and having to mess with it.

  • Here is a list of all the things I thought I needed and was told to bring ?       bathroom stuff/ hair dryer/shampoo/razor/body wash/hair ties ?       toothbrush/deodorant ?       lounge pants/shirt/(3)socks/(3)underwear/nightgown ?       camera/extra batteries/laptop ?       take home outfit for Riley & Me ?       Outfit for Riley?s hospital picture ?       ipods/speaker system ?       cell phone chargers ?       back massage stuff ?       comfy clothes for DH ?       snack foods/bottled water ?       breast pump/breast pads/breastfeeding bra ?       pads/hemorrhoid cream ?       boppy pillow ?       toilet paper ?       baby book   I didn?t use the hair dryer, I just pulled my hair back ( I was way to tired to give a crap what I looked like) Never used the ipod there was way too much going on in the delivery room and afterwards. Never used the back message stuff. Didn?t need the clothing for DH he would just go home and shower and come right back. Didn?t need the snack food or water. Didn?t need the breast pump or boppy pillow, toilet paper and baby book   Hope this helps you..good luck!
  • I packed way too much stuff.  I only ended up using my boppy, my own pillow, robe, and slippers.  As far as clothing, you bleed a lot after delivery, so I wore the hospital gown the whole time.  I didn't want to mess up my clothes.  I only needed an outfit for going home in (yoga pants, nursing top).

  • I, too, looked at a list off of the internet and packed WAY too much stuff. I wore the hospital gown the entire time b/c I didnt want to bleed on it. I didnt even wear my own underwear b/c I didnt want to ruin them.  I really only used my robe, slippers, shower stuff, own pillow, clothes to wear home.  For the baby I did have to send my mom out to buy baby socks to cover her hands b/c the mittens I brought were way too big.  I didnt need stuff to entertain me b/c there was always something going on or someone coming in.  I would definitely just bring the bare basics.  And remember that if there is anything you really need that you dont have, I'm sure there is someone there who will go get it for you, in a heartbeat! Hope this helps!
  • I packed waaaaay to much and didn't use most of it.

This is what I did use: tooth brush, shower gel, shower cap, brush, deoderant, mouthwash, nursing bra, robe

I had PJ's but spent most of the time in the hospital gown.  I was more comfortable in it while I was in bed and I didn't care if it got messy.

We were so exhausted we didn't even put LO in his going home outfit!

  • I brought my nintendo DS and used it quite a bit when there was nothing on tv and I didn't have DS. (I'm also a video game geek)
  • Thank you for your responses!
