even though it's free & clear, I've heard that any fabric softener/dryer sheet can remove the flame retardant stuff on babies clothes. you might want to check into that first.

Ohhh good call. I didn't even think of that! Thanks!!
Yup, Downy makes one, and so does Publix store brand. There is even free and clear Clorox 2. It's very trendy now days, so pretty much every laundry product has a free and clear version.

Not all baby clothing has flame retardant. It was only on things like sleepers and who knows if that's even the case anymore.
Yes, it's called white vinegar. Add it to your rinse cycle! Use dryer balls in the dryer if you feel you need some extra fluff.
Cheap, eco friendly, and good for baby!
Never heard of this! Thanks!!
Once you switch you'll never go back. I cannot STAND the feel of softener now, and never thought I'd be able to give it up. Even my super-skeptical DH is a convert.
One more benefit - the build-up from regular softener (liquid or sheets) can create a fire hazard in your dryer. Not so with vinegar!
I got these from walmart for around 2 bucks they work really well, especially on big loads of baby clothes, not great for static on loads of towels though.

Just plain old white vinegar? Now if your washer has a dispenser for fabric softner you could just add it in there, right? How much do you put in for each load??

Yup, just plain old vinegar. I put about a cup into the FS space on our washer. Note: DO NOT MIX THE VINEGAR WITH BLEACH!! I have done this before and have since learned that it releases toxic fumes (or something along those lines). Lovely....

It says this on the box. I purchased the dryer balls from BBB. No dryer sheets for LO.

white vinegar also helps with odors on clothing. So if you go to a really smoky bar (not that we are these days but it's an example), the white vinegar will help take that smell out of the clothing. Also helps with BO stink in your shirts.

Re: Is there a such thing as pure & free fabric softner?
Yes, Bounce makes dryer sheets that are free of all that stuff. I use them and they work great!
