Probably TMI...hurts to pee, no UTI

Every once in a while, I wake up to pee at night with a horrid pain on my left side. It hurts pretty intensely for about 10 seconds and then goes away, usually after I pee. It feels more internal as opposed to RLP or a muscle ache. I asked my Dr about this and he ordered a urinalysis, which came back with no signs of a UTI.

I know I should call my Dr. again, but just wondering if anyone else has had pain like this. I get it on the left side sometimes too.

  • I get that too - usually when I have to pee badly. Its very weird, I figured it was just my bladder contracting or something.

  • I get it too, usually when I have to go really bad. And sometimes it happens even after I go, but only if I really had to go to begin with. I don't have a UTI either! My OB has no answers, really, just to pee more often. lol

  • I get something similar also...I just chalked it up to my bladder getting squished.  I've noticed it feels really strange while going too...Almost like everything is settling back into place or something.  I've tried to describe it to DH, but all I get is Hmm

  • I asked my doctor about this as well and they said it was from everything relaxing after you pee. When your bladder is full everything is all pushed up but then afterwards it goes back to normal.

  • That is what my doctor said as well. The pain you feel is the bladder pushing on other muscles or organs since everything is squished as it is and the full bladder makes it worse. They there is some soreness for a brief period afterwards which is the settling back or just from being squished. But if you do not have a UTI, this is probably what it is. But at your next Ob appt, ask for another Urine Test to be safe.
  • Thanks ladies, this makes alot of sense and I bet you guys are right!

  • I have this same problem, it only happens at night when my bladder is overly full.  During and immediately after going I will have intense internal pain similar to RLP, and sometimes I actually feel everything moving back down into place.  I also was tested for a UTI but since it was negative they figure its just bladder pain related to all of the pressure that is on it.
