possibly dumb ? re: last few weeks of appointments

I know the dr can see if you're beginning to dialate (which doesn't mean much since it can go for weeks past that) but can they see if your cervix is softening/ripening too?  I'm a little nervous that my body won't be ready for the induction since I've been on bedrest so long and I'll end up with a c-section.  Just wondering if I'll be able to tell if it's getting there or not.

Thanks!

  • Yep, they can tell you everything you'd ever want to know about your cervix :)

  • They can tell you however I don't think that stops them.  I was induced with my first son, and they had me in the hospital for 3 days on pit with NO Dilation...begged to go home to go into labor naturally, they actually let me and 10 days later I was back in for another induction, 12 hours and again nothing...c-section was the only option. Sounds like you are against doing the induction earlier than you have to ...so stick to your guns, it is not fun doing it when your body is not ready.  Good luck I will be thinking about you!
  • I was induced with gel, my water broke on its own and I never dilated past 2 cm. Of course I got a c-section and I thought it was great! But yes, they can tell you everything about your progress.

I don't have a choice with the induction due to my blood pressure. I just want to get an idea of whether or not I am totally screwed and will probably end up with the c-section or not. I know inductions are a lot more successful whenever you're getting there on your own.
