1st Trimester

Update on my bleeding, spotting, lack of symptoms, and Ultrasound

For those of you who who aren't aware of my story - here it is in a nutshell...  About 10 days ago, I had a LOT of bright red bleeding and a large clot - enough to fill a pad.  I thought for sure I was miscarrying, but lo and behold, a few days later, I found out my HCG was still doubling, and my Ultrasound (one week ago) measured 5weeks 3 days - exactly where I should have been.

I was feeling a lot better about the pregnancy, but then, a few days ago (on Friday), I started spotting brown blood and brown discharge (even now, I'm still spotting).  Again - my mind started to fear the worst, and I was preparing myself for another miscarriage before today's Ultrasound.  To add to all this, my symptoms (frequent urination, zits, tender boobies) all kinda vanished after week 5.

So, my hubby and went this morning for my 2nd Ultrasound, and there was a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!!  I have a little miracle baby!!!!  It was the most beautiful sight in the world.  My baby's little heart was beating at a rate of 120, which the Doc said was a healthy number!!  I started crying, I was so happy.  I remember as soon as I saw that little flicker on the screen, I gasped.  Such an amazing moment.  My last pregnancy never reached the point of a heartbeat, so this was a huge milestone.

So - for those of you who worry about spotting or lack of symptoms, hang on to hope.  I purposely put titled my post "Update on my bleeding, spotting, lack of symptoms, and Ultrasound" because I know so many of you have gone through some of those things, and I want to give you a story of hope!  I know it's still early, since I'm in the first trimester, but my heart is a lot more at ease now.

  • Congrats! That is just amazing! I was feeling concerned because I read how everyone is having all these crazy symptoms, etc so I went in yesterday for my U/S just a day early. Dr. told me to not analyze symptoms and that they come and go and you can not compare things to other people. I have not bled but he said to me as an FYI that that bleeding and cramping can be common and it does not always mean m/c

Thanks for all your support and excitement, girls!!!!

In terms of the bleeding and spotting, they thing it was caused by something called a subchorionic hematoma (a blood clot).  Apparently, most pregnancies aren't affected by these hematomas, so the doctors weren't worried, and they think I already passed the clot that was causing the trouble 10 days ago, when I had all the red bleeding.

  • I am so glad to hear that everything is ok.  It's crazy how that little tiny flicker can lift such a huge weight off your shoulders.
  • Great news!  I hope things continue to go smoothly from this point forward.

  • That's great news! I have two friends due in late August/early September who both had heavy bleeding for a few weeks in the first and second trimesters. Both of them still have healthy, thriving babies in there Smile I hope, for your sanity's sake, that this is the last of the scary bleeding for you! Best of luck.

  • This makes me excited! I got a BFP a couple weeks ago, then started (or, at least I thought I started) and then got another few BFPs this past weekend. Along with that, my boobs were sore a couple weeks ago and this week they're not sore at all. I go in today for a dr. appointment. Hopefully my outcome is similar to yours!
