I thought we knew what we were doing, but we didn't.
But the Safe Kids people were great -- definitely worth the half-hour! FYI, they do inspections at the LP police department, Hershey Med and Saturn of Harrisburg. Link to more info in my post.
We watched the video so I'm 99% sure we're doing it right. However I have an issue.
I can only get it latched and level on the passenger side. If I get it latched in the middle I can't get it level. ARGH. I'll have to check out the inspections....maybe they know a secret trick.
I read your post and wanted to let you know that I got these shades. They are flat and stick directly to the window. We haven't put them on yet but they don't use a suction cup or anything so I can't see them flying off and being hazardous (which is why I got them) since they're just flat vinyl or whatever they're made out of.
We had a similar experience. They look easy to install but often times they aren't installed properly. We tried but the Safe Kids people fixed them for us. DH drove friends to a concert last weekend. He asked if he should take out the car seat base. I told him he could if he needed to, but he'd have to go back and have them reinstall it!
Most police departments have at least one person who is certified. Our Upper Allen sargeant installed our infant seats and then our convertible seats. And since I just traded the seat in my car for a different one, he just checked it for me at a car seat check at daycare. I did it right, but he was still able to tighten it and advise me on the shoulder strap position for an older rear-facing child.
When it's time to go forward-facing, I'll call him again. That looks way more complicated!
We couldn't get our c/s in right either. Originally, the CSO at the LP police department put it in, but over time, it kept working itself loose, and I kept having to take it back there to have him "fix it." So, I finally took it to Saturn of Harrisburg and Safe Kids put it in, and I had no problems. I guess it was pretty hard to get it in my old Saturn L300. When I bought my Aura a month ago, DH put it in (Safe Kids inspected it at Saturn) and it was great - there's a latch system in the Aura that I didn't have in my old Saturn that makes it a ton easier.?
