My husband's grandmother is in a nursing home. When our baby arrives, what is the appropriate time we should wait before we bring a newborn to a hospital like setting like this to meet his greatgrandmother?
Honestly, I'd wait until 8 weeks if you can...nursing homes are sort of germy places.
If she's really sick though you can risk it sooner, but this is a time where I'd be cautious.
ETA Just realized my answer doesn't make much sense on germs vs her being sick....I more meant if she was at risk of not living much longer then obviously I'd go, if it's just a long term care situation I'd wait.
Are you having a hospital birth? If so, your LO will have already spent quite a bit of time in a hospital setting. I'd think a few hours with an immediate bath when you get home should be fine whenever you're feeling up to it. Otherwise, the general rule is 6 weeks for going out into a crowd.
I don't think this is a question someone else can answer for you...it is truly time when you feel comfortable taking your LO somewhere. Also , ask your pedi what they think.
FWIW, my LO has already been tons of places. I don't see the point in locking myself in the house away from "germs" for weeks on end.
My DH's grandma is also in a nursing home and we took DD into meet her at three weeks. We were the only one's touching her and we all washed our hands. She did not get sick and it was fine. Most of all his grandmother was thrilled to meet her great granddaughter while she was still a tiny baby.
Most importantly do what your comfortable with and have fun introducing the LO!
We were told by our pedi it was ok to take her after her first round of vaccinations at 2 months if it was a well floor. I'm not sure what the guideline would be if she is on a floor with sick people.

If you call the pedi I'm sure they can tell you.
