My friend's EDD is tomorrow. She has chosen the name Arlene Leilani for her daughter. How would you pronounce Arlene? She wants the name to be pronounced Ar-len. Is there a better way of spelling this name without causing any confusion for the baby's future teachers?
Thank you TTCAL and IF board.

Re: How would you pronounce this name?
Arlene is R-lean.
If she wants it R-lehn, tt should be spelled Arlen. But I'm 99% sure that's a male name.
Arlene will always be pronounced Are-lean. She will be correcting people constantly. I also think Arlen would be a better way to spell it.
Yes I think almost everyone would pronounce Arlene as Are-lean.
For the pronounciation Are-lehn I guess I would spell it Arlen (though I too think this is a boy name)
Yes, she is willing to take any suggestion.

Are-Leen
If she wants to name her Arlene that sounds like 'Are-Len', then I think she should take the 'e' off the end.....OR...Spell it like Arlynne, Arlyn, or Arlin.
This is a good idea actually... spelling it Arlyn would be more likely to be prounounced the way she wants, but looks more feminine than Arlen.
