Sleeping on the boob

Ok, my LO is now 5 days old and we are finally getting the hang of breastfeeding, but today has been frustrating. When he gets on the breast he either starts crying or falls asleep. He'll latch on for like 10 sucks then cries to the point where he won't even try to suck or he zonks out! Any suggestions would be SOOOO appreciated! The lactation consultant is NO WHERE to be found!

    1.  Get another lactation consultant.

     

    To keep her awake enough to eat I would rub a wet cloth or baby wipe across her back.  She was pissed, but it worked most of the time.

     

    Was that your main question or do you have another?

    Rub/tickle her feet or cheek to keep her awake. My LO did the same thing when we first started.

    The lactation specialist at my hospital told me to rub a wet cloth across her face or arm and to also undress her. It worked for us. GL

    Undress her, rub her head, and rub her hands.  Switch sides, burb her, change her diaper half way through.  GL!!!
