We would play "dinosaurs." My brother and I had all of these plastic little animals that we would build houses for, etc. They'd drive around in their car (aka bro's skateboard). Heh good times.
We'd also play barbies or legos a lot. Or play something like school.
My parents were the only parents of all my friends who would let us make mud pies and play in the dirt when we were little.
We also played dress up because again...I was the only one of all my friends who had a big box of dress up clothes (my mom's old 60's and 70's clothes, not the pink princess crap they have now).
My house was pretty much the mecca for play...since my parents were cool with forts in the livingroom, playing in the dirt, and dress-up. I even had a clubhouse that my dad built me in the backyard....a rope swing and a seesaw. I was pretty cool until kids outgrew that stuff...haha.
Hmmm... wonder of my fondest memories... digging big holes in the yard... filling them with water... and sitting in them, in out swimsuits... ahhh... a mud bath!!

We played "work". Sometimes we worked at an office, sometimes a school, sometimes we were librarians and the person who was head librarian basically went around telling everyone else to be quiet. We dragged out loads of books and organized them for our "library".
Or we put on roller skates and played music, like a dance. We used the poles in car port as our "boyfriends". I guess we were all set to be pole dancers.
We also played with our Cabbage patch kids, Transformers, Strawberry Shortcake Dolls, and Herself the Elf. Oh and Rainbow Brite.

We TOTALLY played "Library" - we made library cards and made each other "check out" books. Silly, so silly.

I was addicted to My Little Ponies. I had about 40 of them at one point. I think they might still be somewhere at my parents'.

We played 'office' or 'work'. I used to arrange Big Wheel Hour in our neighborhood in the summer. We would all get our Big Wheels and go to one house that had a really long driveway. We would draw streets like a downtown Main Street with chalk and ride our Big Wheels up and down. Sort of like a kid happy hour as it was in the evening before dinner. Heh - now that I think about it - I'll be our parents loved it as that allowed them to have an adult happy hour sans kiddos!!

Did this and played grocery store a lot. I made credit cards out of old cardboard and would make credit card reciepts for people to sign. Someone once gave me carbon paper so I could have two copies and I went apeshit with glee.
I also made the "beep" noise each time I scanned an item. It was SO fun.
We played a lot of pretend, games like restaurant, office, hotel etc. We'd unplug all my parent's phones and get tablets of paper and take "orders" we'd play for hours.

I am such a nerd.
I remember those carbon things - loved those!! I seriously loved office supplies as a kid. (Ummm... I still kinda do...) Yea, I'm a nerd too.
We used to play with Barbies a lot...trade them so they could have their own 'sleep-overs', etc. We did also use our playhouse and the neighbors as school houses and take turns being the teacher. We had a lot of pretend play going on....
We also did a lot of pretending, playing with Cabbage Patch Kids and Carebears, building forts, riding bikes, doing crafts and coloring... I was a pretty well-rounded little kid.
We had a path with tons of bushes running down a group of courts in our neighborhood, and we would spend the time playing hide & seek, pretending they were forts or stores or any other number of things... Oh, and we discovered the little rain bird things that you could shoot water out of when you stuck a stick in them & stepped on them :-)
I played with Barbies A LOT. In fact, I played with them until I reached a ridiculously embarrassing age. My best friend and I would pack them in gym bags and sneak them over to each other's house to play until we were freshmen in high school.
Barbies were always a hit, baseball in the street, GI Joe - I was the only girl so I always go to be Ladyhawk (?), we also played office at my friends house.......her dad had tons of office supplies and we would spend hours just getting our offices ready.......
Then I got into riding a BMX bike and catapulting myself down various hills in the neighborhood, which led to me getting to know the nurses in the ER on a first name basis!?

Indoors - we played library too! And secretary.
Outdoors - we played a lot of games that involved running around and screaming.

What did you play with as a Child? What was it that you and your friends always seemed to end up doing?
We played with Cabbage patch kids dolls, barbies, and super Mario.
We always end up playing hide and go seek, or with the above playing bank, or house.
We used to play with Barbies a lot...trade them so they could have their own 'sleep-overs', etc. We did also use our playhouse and the neighbors as school houses and take turns being the teacher. We had a lot of pretend play going on....
I liked to play "lava" or "hell" where you had to stay on the swing set and not touch the ground.
We rode out bikes around a lot too. all over the place.
