How do you know your baby has reflux?

DS doesn't spit up alot but he is always moving and can't seem to get comfortable.  It is torturous trying to rock him to sleep at night- sometimes he cries and cries while I am holding/rocking him.  Could this be reflux? He is a good burper but maybe not enough.

  • Sorry for the repeat post- I just looked down and saw the silent reflux post.  Any suggestions still helpful!  Thanks!

  • Our big indicator was that he screamed when we put him on his back. He would also keep his legs drawn up/in while crying and screamed after eating and burping.
  • DD has the non regurgitative type of GERD...she wakes up from her naps screaming inconsolably, she is a bad burper (but better being bottle fed) she has contstant back up that you can hear her swallowing over and over again when she is layed flat (even after having her upright 30 min after each feeding) couughs a lot and chokes a lot (while eating, and hours after) sounds stuffed up a lot..i can go on and on....it took awhile for us to get diagnosed

  • Trust your instincts.  I knew DS had a problem but didn't spit up and sure enough was diagnosed w/ silent reflux. Some days he'd be good, and others not so good.  It usually coincided with long car rides...and even on his reflux meds he still gets fussy for about a day after a long outing in the car.  Must be too much for his belly.  Anyways, the key that DS was reflux baby was you could never put him down.  That and he wanted to feed all the time, then you'd feed him and he'd whimper and spit the bottle out, then grab for it and make a chugging sound, then choke...etc.etc...
