Gosselin news of the day

Kate photographed spanking Leah. Leah reportedly blew a whistle after being told to stop.

If you want to discipline your kid by spanking that's one thing, but how stupid do you have to be to do it outside when you know there are cameras pointed at you pretty much all the time?

Re: Gosselin news of the day

  • I feel bad for Kate, I really do. ?I know that a lot of people say she's brought it on herself and she was mean to Jon, etc.. but geez. ?The paparazzi being that close to your house?! ?Ugh, that would suck so bad.?

  • Awe, that's sad... look at Cara and Mady's face- they are shocked and confused.

I don't think spanking is a bad thing, but she needs to do it in the house. And blowing a whistle after being told not to should not = a spanking.

  • I feel bad for all of them.  Jon is probably dating because they are separated, not cheating.  She has a camera in her face every where she goes...even her own yard.  Those poor children get to grow up thinking this is normal, and will one day see all the video and internet stories and realize how f'd up it all is.  It is something they should have stopped years ago, when they started to see the cracks in their relationship.  They can not be so dumb that they didn't see it coming, we all did.

That being said, I still believe th adults brought it on themselves. The kids did not, but will be the ones that suffer from all of it in the end.

  • Oh FFS. Seriously? Now the woman can't even discipline her kids without it being photographed and put on the front page of the tabloids? Freaking ridiculous. I don't care what anyone says, I feel sorry for Kate.?

    ditto.

Whether I think spanking is an appropriate punishment or not.

  • I don't agree that she should have to go inside to discipline her kids.  For all we know she could have told 15 times to stop blowing that whistle, and tried other methods first.

why not take the whistle away then?

I stand by my statement- whistle blowing should not = spanking. ESPECIALLY when outside.

  • She is...it's clear in the first photo that she is taking the whistle.  And maybe Leah gave her a smart remark back, I know my dd does that.  And there is no pic that I see of her actually hitting her.
  • I feel sorry for the kids. Jon and kate--I don't. they "signed up" to be constantly hassled by papparazzi. they likely were looking at the $$$$ and

not thinking about how their life would be scrutinized and be every detail of it broadcast after they signed on the dotted line to have a reality show. the poor kids though, they had no choice. ?

  • She has every right to discipline her children.  It might not be something I would do - but she has every right to do what she did.  We do not know the whole whistle story!  I feel bad for her in this scenario (and I normally don't feel bad for her).
  • She could end this whole thing. Jon said he wanted out of the show on TV. I'm not watching it anymore, so maybe he's changed his tune, but I doubt it. She needs to end this. It's not fun anymore to see how the Gosslins clan is doing. It's sad.

  • I agree that people should be able to discipline their children the way they see fit.  I don't think the crime fits the punishment in this case, but it could be made up (or stuff could be left out) by the media, too, so whatever.  Not my business.

    BUT

At this point, I do not feel sorry for either Kate or Jon.  Had they stopped doing the show last season, and then gone through all of this in private, I think it would have been different.  There would have still been the photos of Jon out with whatsherface, but if you stay out of the public eye, people will lose interest.  That has been proven.  But instead of getting their lives off camera, they went forward and even discussed it all on camera for the season opener.  Went on promoting their show and their books, talked about their marriage, everything to the media.  They are in this by their own choosing.

  • Somehow the Duggars manage to not get photographed in embarrassing or questionable situations, and there are plenty of celebrities who are photographed all the time who aren't "caught" spanking their kids. How come Kate can't manage it?

Oh, sorry- I didn't see it. And that's true- a smart remark back would warrant a quick pop on the butt. Maybe Leah is being overly dramatic about it too and crying because the whistle was taken away, not because of the spank.

  • It'll be fine, they'll just work it into an episode.

Exactly this.  We have NO idea what the whole story is.

  • They just need to get out of their TV contract and quietly go on with life...who hasn't been so frustrated they've wanted to spank their kid?  (most don't act on it--myself included so far)

To have it caught forever in a picture is too much. To have it splashed everywhere?  Too much.
