Eco-Friendly Family

When did you "go EF"?

I have always been EF to some extent.. like I grew up a vegetarian and with organic foods, composted for a long time, avoided chemicals.

But once I had my DD in 2007 I have really gone EF - and not just CD's.  I always tried to use natural body products and stuff, but never ever like this.  I guess I feel like it's all interconnected - our health, the products we use, obviously the things we eat.  And that it's important to make that a lifestyle for my children.  So as soon as my DD was born I went all out and switched out everything for EF stuff!

Re: When did you "go EF"?

  • I have always been EF to a certain level (at least compared to many of my friends), but I think I really became more aware and active on this front after DS was born, and really, each month that passes with him I become more so. For me, it's just been something that has kicked in even greater with my mothering instinct. And it isn't just for him. I want to encourage DH to eat healthier and keep a more green home for his own health. I'm become much more interested and motivated about having a healthy family in multiple ways.

  • I have been increasingly EF my entire adult life, since many EF things are also very economical and I had many poor years while I was putting myself through college. I don't have childen, so that was not the impetus.

I have been making efforts for quite a few years (walking/taking PT, reusable bags, etc) but I really started changing more drastically since I had DD. ?I realized that we are responsible for the world we leave behind for our children. ?I started using EF cleaning products, CDs, composting, diva cup, etc. ?I feel like there is so much more I could be doing, but I take it one step at a time. ??

  • Started right after college with our first hybrid car, and done a few things like buying more energy efficient products, but I def. feel like I have a ways to go, especially once our baby comes.    I've been encouraged by lurking on this board and reading everyone's posts here.

  • Around the beginning of this year after finding this board. I've slowly started changing things in my life. I'm nowhere near close to be completely EF though!
  • Within the last few years. I've always been big on RRR and respecting nature but when a good friend majored in Environment and Development I started to learn a lot from her. After getting pg I started researching all things EF and this board has helped a lot.

I'm still not the greatest EF person but I try to make good decisions for my home, family and at work. DH is getting more and more on board - cleaning with natural cleaners, CDing, etc but I haven't fought the battle of yard chemicals with him yet....
