We're headed to OBX in late August, so I'm thinking I should buy Ali a suit now, because the only suits I"ll be able to find around then will be snowsuits. Any recommendations or things to avoid? I don't really see taking her in the ocean, and the house we're renting doesn't have a pool. I plan on getting a sun shelter (again, recommendations welcome.)
I'm also looking for recommendations on sunglasses - regular baby ones just don't fit her. Any one have wrap arounds that stay in place with a band?
TIA!
Re: Bathing Suits and other summer stuff
I have no idea on what to look for but my friend found some really cute girl bathing suits at the dollar store for her niece. They obviously weren't the best quality but when you're only using it for a week or so anyway who cares.
Target has sunglasses with a soft neoprene band that velcros in the back. I would go soon though! They were down to bare bones on the bathing suits, board shorts, and sunglasses when I stopped in quick last weekend (at the one on the Carlisle Pike)
I bought Olivia a suit but she hasn't worn it yet. BRU had some really cute suits a few weeks ago.
The only thing I can tell you about sunscreen is that I heard some complaints about the Aveeno baby stuff.
Since your trip is in August...You could order her some Baby Banz sunglasses. They are great!
Have you checked out onestepahead.com? They have tons and tons of great stuff for the beach. We bought Chase a swim diaper, so that we didn't have the nasty disposable ones. I know they sell the suits at Toys R'Us that have the built in diaper in them. They are great.
Neutrogena came out with a new Baby/Kids sunblock that really goes on smooth and doesn't have an odor to it.
I have a onestepahead coupon if you would want it if you find anything there that you would want to buy.
We use the Aveeno Baby sunblock and really like it. We also use Water Babies and it's fine too, but we stuck with Aveeno last summer.
Can't help with girl suits, but we got cute boy ones at the OshGosh outlet and at the Children's Place. Last summer we gave up on sunglasses, but he would heave his sun hat on.
Here was last summer's beach look:
We have those sunglasses Lindyanne was talking about. They stay on so well but Ethan didn't really mess with them. I tried them on him several times to get him used to them. We also used a hat to protect his head from the sun. Pics in my blog from our vacation last week.
We didn't end up using sunscreen b/c he wasn't really ever uncovered in the sun but I bought California Baby sunscreen stick from Target too. I thought it would be convenient since it was so small.

Thanks for the suggestions!
About the sunglasses at Target - are they located near the baby clothing? I don't remember seeing any sunglasses in our Target (I'm near State College), but I may not have been looking in the right spot.
They were on an end cap in the baby section with baby bathing suits.
