Breast pump delimma ; WWYD?

Hello! One of my closest friends bought me the pump I chose from my registry, the Lanisoh Double Electric Breast pump. I was so floored by her generosity of buying me such a nice gift- I couldn't believe it!!

Then, this weekend, I had a shower and another friend, who I hadn't discussed pumping with, brought her Medlea Lactina pump to the shower; it's a very expensive hospital grade pump that you are able to share, since it is hospital grade and has no risk of drawing the milk back in. Both lactation consultants I have spoken with say that if I have to opportunity to use that pump, I should! They have said that my milk supply will maintain better with that high quality of pump and that I will get more from each pump, and I do plan to return to work full time.

I just hate to disappoint my friend after such an awesome gift that she was so proud of (and I was so thankful for!)

WWYD?

Thanks!

  • I'd use the hospital grade one.

  • awe how sweet of her to do! but of course you need to do whats best for you and LO! Can you return her gift without her ever knowing? If not I would just tell her straight up and why - she sounds like an awesome friend so im sure she will understand! Smile
  • That's a hard one.

I think I'd use the new one (I've heard that the Lansinoh is very comparable to the Medela pumps) and if for some reason it's not working out how you'd like you have a back up. That's just what I'd do though.

  • If you can, return the 1st one, but keep it marked as 'purchased' on your registry.

I'd feel guilty as well, but how will your friend know which one you are using?

  • use both. one for work, one for home. my sil ended up with 2 pumps b/c she kept forgetting parts at either home or office.

I suppose you guys are right... she would not know. I would just feel like I had to tell her if I took her gift back :)

  • I would either return it without her knowing or just keep it and have two pumps. Something might happen with one of them and it is good to have a back up. Or like what other said you could keep one at work so you don't have to drag one from work and home.

  • I rented a high grade Medela from the hospital and HATED it... could barely get 2 oz at a time after 15+ minutes and it was extremely painful. I was about to give up on pumping when I decided to pull out the single battery operated Avent Isis I had purchased on sale... it pumped like a dream. On the very first day I got twice as much in less time and abosolutely no pain.

I returned the Medela right away and never looked back. For this baby I'm planning on buying the double Isis to get a better use out of them.

I would wait until baby is here and then use the one that is best for you. Your friends will understand.?

Can you return the first one if used?? if not, try the Medela one and if it doesn't feel good, go with the other?

Ditto this, the Lactina is awesome!

  • Just out of curiosity, did they recommend the Lactina Electric Plus or the Lactina Select?

  • how is she going to know? if you dont pump in front of her or keep it out when she is over, then she will never know! you have to do what is best for you! anyhow, use the money from the returned item to buy something else you really need from your registry. your friend just wants you to have something that you will really use and not just out of obligation!

as far as i know you can not return or exchange pumps if even opened

  • I would use the Medela... You can return the other one and get $150 to go toward something else.  Is your friend really going to be there to watch you pump?  I am sure she would understand, if she were find out that you returned it.

Not only is the Medela free, but it is also "better"... so really the only thing holding you back is you don't want to hurt your friend's feelings.
