So we are on day 3 now of no poop! How many days before I should get concerned? I know it's normal for them to go longer if they are BF, but how much longer is normal? TIA!
My doc (and what I'e read) said that a BF baby can go up to a week between poops. Stasa's only gone a day or so between them and even then, when she did go, WHOA it was a mess.
Stasa 01.15.09 * Lexi 03.24.11 * Tommy 04.27.13 * Merklet #4 due 10.10.15
Our pedi says up to 5 days is normal....breast milk is absorbed better and thus less comes out than for formula fed babies. I would love to go one day without a poopy diaper, but I will take the one big poopy diaper a day as opposed to every one being poopy like they used to be!
Normal for DS is 6-7 days, but we've gotten up to 8 or 9 days. It's kind of nice b/c I only change a poopy diaper about once/week. BUT- when it comes, watch out. I always know when it's about to happen because he does a very serious grunting job, so I snatch him up quickly, get him on a towel on a changing table, get a plastic bag and about 5 diapers ready, and just swap them out as it comes. It takes a good 5 minutes for him to finish LOL! And then usually a bath or good wipedown. It's pretty much a disaster each time.
It is perfectly normal to go up to 7 days between poops. As long as your LO doesn't have a fever, is eating normally, passes gas, and is having wet diapers, you shouldn't need to worry. If you want to help speed things along, try taking their temperature rectally, giving LO a warm bath, bicycle pumping the legs, and extra tummy time. Have fun!
