So, I am watching a Teen Pregnancy Expose...

And they said...

"The fact is if you have unprotected sex, you have a 85% chance of getting pregnant within a year."

Where did they get that fact? Maybe that only applies if you are a teenager :)

They should talk to the GP girls for fact checking. ?

    I watched that on E! last night too.  Sooo creepy when the girl kidnapped the other pregnant girl to steal her baby Tongue Tied

    And then the girl who killed her baby, such a tragedy

    I know I should not be watching I can't stop. It is the E! show...sad and like a train wreck.?

    I have not seen the MTV show. But, yes it is everywhere at the moment.

    I would like to know where they get that 85% number. I know there are a lot of girls on this board who are actively trying for more than a year with great timing and I would not say that 85% of them get PG within a year. Many do, but 85% is a very high number. ?

    This is true.  That is why they say to try for one year before seeing a doctor.  Because 85% of couples will become pregnant within a year, just by stopping birth control.

    Seems like a fraud to us ladies that are doing so much more than "just stopping birth control".  So unfair!

    i read somewhere it was 94% for a 20 year old and 85% for 25 year old within the year. could be a bit high but thats what i read.

    I was told I have an 80% chance of conceiving in a year. How accurate that is I dont know.

    This. And it's going to skew slightly based on age, but I would not lump in people here on the ttc boards with the general population. One visit to the tri boards will tell you how many pregnancies are unplanned. So this population is not representative.

    My doctor told me the chances are 80% within one year, but to me it seems those women have to do more than simply stop BC otherwise I would know a lot more pregnant women!!!
