Question about babysitters....

How did you find your babysitter?  I'm not talking about DCP, but rather who you leave DC with if you go out for a date with dh or something like that. 

So far we've only left N with grandparents, and once with my BFF, but I'd like to have a back up in the even we're going somewhere with the grandparents or whatever. 

I babysat all the time as a teenager, but I don't know if kids do that anymore...at least I haven't noticed any.

Do you have a teenage babysitter? If so how did you find them?

    We haven't had to hirer one yet... but... I plan to 1) ask parents in my neighborhood 2) ask my DCP for any recs... maybe one of them likes to make a little $$ on the side 3) contact our local college.

    I would ask friends and families who have teenagers that may be willing to babysit. Since the summer vacation is here for them, it might be perfect timing for them to get extra cash.

    As for rates, I have no idea. I think I got $20 if I watched a kid for several hours (it was usually dinner and a movie for mom & dad). This was about 20 yrs ago.

    I was thinking now would be a good time to find one...

    I remember making like $20 too, but I somehow think that our rates are a bit outdated...considering it's been quite a few years since I babysat.

    we have also been thinking about this. I am going to call our Waldorf School that I went to and that dc takes parent/toddler and they have a list of students who babysit in their high school office.

    One of my girlfriends said babysitters make anywhere from $ 6 - 10 an hour.

    Do you know any high school teachers that could reccomend a student they know of that babysits ?

    I was thinking of asking one of the college students who does daycare at my gym.

    Maybe one of your DC have teenagers or know of some who babysit.

    At the park and rec where I work we have a list of babysitters who take the babysitting work shop. Basically baby care/cpr etc. They leave their name at the end of the class if they want to be contacted. You might want to try your local park and rec.

    I haven't used one yet but my pediatrician has cards for a babysitter he recommends.  Maybe your pediatrician has recs too?

    I use my niece she is 13, but has gone through the babysitting training course at the SR Parks and Rec'd dept. She is CPR & Firts Aid trained and is really good with her. I pay her $ her 30-40 per date night, and I usually buy her some snacks foods that she likes as well.

    I found my babysitter like this. She is 15 1/2

    we were at the deli down the street from the house for lunch. This gal was just goooing and gaaaing over  Katie. After I sat down, I told my husband "hey, she might babysit" and went and asked her. It has been fantastic ever since, they love eachother. I pay around $6 an hour.

    I used care.com and there were lots in my area.  I emailed about 10 girls with questions and then interviewed 3 in person.  I found one that that I use regularly and LOVE her and the other two I have as back ups. 

    She's 20 and I pay her $12/hour.  I was uncomfortable with a high schooler, but really it totally depends on the person (babysitter).

    We use a local neighborhood teenager.  We found her through word-of-mouth in our neighborhood.  Just stopped and made friends with various moms and it sort of came up naturally.  This is actually our 2nd teenager...the first one graduated from HS and didn't want to do it anymore.  This one is I think a Jr and an honor student and interested in college and child development.  (Oh and I met her mom while her mom was out walking her dog....)  Her going rate is about $8-10/hour.  Makes for an expensive night so we don't do it very often.
    Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

    I babysat a few weeks ago for 2 kids (2.5 and 3 months). I was paid $10/Hour. Even though I'm in Seattle, I would think it's fairly comparable rate. I would expect to be paid 6-8 for one child.
