3rd Trimester

I'm so tired of hearing this

So I've made no secret of the fact that other than a few fleeting moments, I have not enjoyed being pregnant.  I am not bitter that other people have wonderful pregnancies, it just hasn't worked out like that for me.  It seems like whenever someone I know who has more than one child aside from my best friends hears me say this, they go into a rant of, "I can't believe you don't love being pregnant! I loved being pregnant! Being pregnant is the best! You just didn't know what to expect! You're being selfish! I got sick like once a week and you don't see me complaining!"

Yeah, someone actually said every bit of that to me last night.  When I told her I'd been in and out of the hospital up until just about halfway through, she said I had probably just overreacted because I didn't realize I'd throw up more than once or twice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that I'm pregnant, so looking forward to having a little girl with my husband especially after thinking it wouldn't happen, blah blah blah, but I think it's sad that women are looked down on if they dislike pregnancy.

Re: I'm so tired of hearing this

  • I am with you on this one. I'm lucky though both my SIL's and my sister didn't completely enjoy it so I have a few people on my side.

  • I'm sorry you hear that so much. I can relate! This pregnancy has been good but my first? Awful! Hated it. Missed nothing about it. It hurt me when people said that they loved being pregnant and missed it. I wished that could be me but it just wasn't.

It is sad to be looked down upon for not liking pregnancy. But no one knows what your pregnancy is like but you. Not a single one of us are exactly the same. It's okay!!

I was talking about this at a housewarming over the weekend. I've always said that I hated being pregnant but really loved delivery. I get all kinds of crazy looks and responses to that. Oh well. It's true and we're all different.

The important thing is loving our babies once they get here and being great moms!

  • I hear you. If I say to someone, I can't wait to be done I just want my baby, people look at me like I'm nuts.

I come from a large family, my grandmother had 18 kids(no multiples), so I feel as though I can never complain around my fam because she was pregnant for about 13 years of her life!!

  • Yes?

I wish people would just keep their unsolicited opinions/advice/etc. to themselves because of this! I get the same condescending attitude from everyone around here just because I'm going to *try* to give birth w/out an epidural. When will other women learn to shut the fark up - since everyone's pregnancy is different?!

  • While I do love pregnancy, I have had it very easy.  I do think, however, that it is ridiculous to be judgmental of someone who has a different experience!  I love my car dealer- every time I go (I used to have a car that had a million recalls), I leave feeling grsteful for awesome service every single time... but I wouldn't dream of ridiculing or trying to say hurtful things to people who don't feel the same about having recalls- LOL.

I am sure you know your feelings about pregnancy have NOTHING to do with what kind of mom you'll be... isn't that what matters in the long run?  I'd rather be remembered as being a great mother than a happy pregnant lady!

Heeeey, it's the other crazy lady! I was thinking about you the other day.

  • I am with you 100%. Its like just because you dont LOVE being pregnant people assume that you arent excited about your baby. That peeves me! I just like to tell people that obviously they had a little more FAVOR than I do during their pregnancy & that no one in their right mind could enjoy going through what I have/am going through.

::hugs:: Awww, thanks! I've been AWOL between cable/internet outages (thank, digital TV transition!) and my somewhat needy students this semester, LOL.

    How have you been??

    How have you been?

Tired, grumpy, trying to get things situated without panicking...you know, the usual stuff.

LOL - guess who's nursery still isn't done? But yet I'm pretty calm about it - 90% of the time.?

  • I completely agree. It gets so annoying to have people saying "You have to enjoy your pregnancy," and "you'll miss it, I just loved being pregnant!" No, I won't miss it... I'll be overjoyed to be a separate person again and doing the things I enjoyed pre-pregnancy. I have not enjoyed it one bit and although I am grateful that my body has done its job by the book, I will be insanely happy to not be uncomfortable and tired, large, awkward, moody, and be able to take a deep breath again!
