Baby Names

How would you pronouce...

Vivyanne? Its our top girl name but want it to be said like Vivy-anne, not Vivian. Do you think the alternate spelling helps?

Our other girl name is Ella, which we love, but its pretty popular these days which makes me want to avoid it.

 Thoughts?

 Thanks!

Re: How would you pronouce...

  • It's NMS, but yes, that's how I'd probably pronounce it.

  • It looks and sounds a little *off*- like someone mispelling/mispronouncing Vivian.

But yes, I would also pronounce it the way you want when spelled that way.

I like Ella SO much. Is it popular where you are or just popular in general? I only know one Ella.

  • I don't get it. How does Vivyanne sound vs. Vivianne?

I think people usually pronounce Vivian or Vivianne like vivy-IN.

    Me too?

The Vivi-Vivy part sounds the same, but the end sounds like the name Anne, as opposed to an "uhn" sound.

     Hope that makes sense :)

I don't think you need the Y to get the pronunciation that you want...unless I am mistaken. I would pronounce it vivy-anne with it spelled like Vivianne...
  • Spell it Vivianne. There is no need for the y. I would pronounce it Viv-ee-anne. I don't get the obsession with Ella.at.all.?
  • I don't think Vivyanne is a real name, so I'd probably just raise my eyebrows and look helpless and say "Viv...?  Vivi...Vivian, right?  So sorry, whoever made the roster must have some spelling issues."
  • I like spellings with i's rather than y's...the y is confusing, IMHO. However, I think any would possibly be mispronounced, mostly because people are familiar with Vivian, and would probably assume you chose an alternate spelling. Your child (or you) would likely have to correct a lot of people, but even normal, common names can be mispronounced, so might not be a huge issue!
  • That is the worst spelling I have seen on here in a while. Sorry but it's really awful. People will still call her Vivi-IN or worse...."Vyvy-anne??"
  • Okay, the Y totally threw me off. I was saying, "Vi-Vye-anne."

This. It's NMS, but I would pronounce it the way you intend it to be.

I love the name Ella - it's on our list. :)

  • I would pronounce it like Vivian, so the alternate spelling obviously didn't help me.
  • The spelling does make you want to pronounce it as want them to, but I think an i would work just the same for the spelling.

     And Ella is gorgeous too!

  • MMM...sorry. I would still pronounce it Viviane but just think it was misspelled kreatively. II think the only way I would get it right is if you actually spelled it Vivvy-Anne.

i would pronounce it Vivian and think you were weird.

    LOL!

  • I think if you want it pronounced as if it were two separate names, you need to make it two separate names. Vivie Anne or similar. Because otherwise I would bet most people will say Vivian.?

  • I agree that if you want the sound of "Anne" at the end of that particular name, it should just be two seperate names said together.  Vivi Anne, Vivie Anne, etc.  Vivian/Vivianne will be pronounced traditionally because it's like taking Sarah and saying you want it pronounced ser-AH.  The "y" does not change the prononciation in my opinion.  Pretty name but WAY confusing spelling...also starts looking made up and yooneek, kwim?  Good luck, the sound of it is really nice, but so is Vivian :)

this exactly. there's just no reason for that silly spelling.

This. If you love Vivie Anne, name her that.

  • Thanks for the input. I guess I"m overthinking it and making it too complicated! :)

I would still pronounce it Vivian and think that you just wanted to be cre8ive with the spelling. What about Vivianne? I think that's actually a lot more instructive - whenever I see an extraneous Y I assume that someone just wants a neato spelling but a typical pronunciation...

  • I don't think people will pronouce it your way without a hyphen or seperating the 2 names. Good luck

  • I agree w/ using two names if you want it pronounced correctly.
  • that spelling hurts my eyes.

I was wondering the same thing.

  • With the way you are spelling it I would def pronounce it the way you want it. Spelled the traditional way I would not pronounce it the way you want it. With that being said I am not crazy about your spelling but I understand why you are doing it.

I really like Ella and I have never met or heard of any Ella's around here. This has been my sisters top baby girl name for a couple years now.

    My thoughts exactly.
