I went to Harrisburg with Colby and wasn't very pleased with them or my OB. The nursery didn't seem to want to deal with Colby for more then 15min at a time and the hospital and OB had awful communication with me. I am kinda hesitent to go to Holy next time because Harrisburg has a better nicu and Colby almost had to go to the nicu. If you could just tell me why you picked Harrisburg or Holy Spirit how you liked it and how you liked your OB. Thanks!
Re: Harrisburg vs Holy Spirit and your OB
I picked for the OB and didn't have a hospital preference. I went with Ndlovu Women's Health. They're actually located at Harrisburg Hospital, in the Medical Sciences Building, which was great when I had to come to the hospital several times during my very difficult pregnancy. Every time I had bleeding and had to go to L&D, the doctors were waiting for me there. I heard horror stories from the L&D nurses about docs from other practices who made their patients wait an hour or more before they showed up. I was eventually put on hospital bedrest and I got to know them all very well during my stay and I was so glad to have chosen them. I still look forward to going to the office for my quaterly depo injections because I got to know the docs and nurses so well and they just love seeing Adam.
As of now, the practice only has two docs, a midwife and a CRNP. The docs are a husband and wife team and they're both very skilled. One thing I really appreciated was that they were always on the same page with my treatment because there are so few practitioners and they seem to meet every morning to discuss patient care. I never once heard one thing from one doc and something else from another.
And I agree, I wasn't a big fan of my post partum care at Harrisburg, but since it's really just a few days in the grand scheme of things, it didn't really matter. And with my complications I was expected to deliver very early, so the high quality NICU was important to me too, and trumped the complaints about the nursery and quality of the rooms and food.
I go to Center for Womens Health, and delivered at Holy Spirit. I picked based on the practice, which came highly recomended. It also helps that i live less than 5 miles from the practice / hospital. I am very happy with my practice, they have been wonderful through two miscarriages, my pregnancy and delivery with Connor, and this pregnancy which included the possible loss of a twin. They have always been very responsive to my concerns and will do whatever they can to put me at ease. When it came to delivery, I had a midwife and she was wonderful, she is planning on coming in whenever I go into labor with #2. I also like that they just changed their policy and now only the midwives do regular deliveries.
As for Holy Spirit, my expericne there was very good. I really liked the nurses and they helped make my delivery easy. At night they suggested that I put him in the nursery and I really didnt want to, I am so happy I listened to them, it was the only 4 hours of sleep I was able to get and they brought him to me as soon as he was hungry. The second night we couldnt wait for them to come and get him!
I also used Center for Women's Health as my OB and delivered at Holy Spirit. My sister and aunt both work for Holy Spirit, my older sister delivered three kids there and my younger sister delivered there too. We have all had nothing but positive experiences there as far as the delivery and post delivery go. As for the NICU, my younger sister's baby had to be admitted to the NICU for a few days and she wasn't too fond of how they acted there. Then again, this is the same sister that refuses to put her kid in daycare. She can be a little anal and overprotective sometimes : )
Anyway, overall, my feeling is that Holy Spirit is better, but you do whatever feels right to you!
