Over the counter Amniotic fluid tests

So I read somewhere that they have tests available at pharmacies that show whither or not the fluid you are leaking is urine or amniotic fluid..

I haven't been able to find anything about it online really and the pharmacist at walgreens hadn't heard about it ..

anyone heard about this??

I'm a little concerned that I might be leaking fluid right now.. since this morning. I've had a little cramping but I attributed that to work since I have been on my feet for 6 hours.

Re: Over the counter Amniotic fluid tests

  • I've never seen it, but I'm interested to see what others say!  If you can't find it and you're not sure, I'd definitely call your Dr.

  • Never heard of that! But I would call my dr, regardless.
  • I'm pretty sure it's just normal Litmus paper. If it turns bright blue, then it's amniotic fluid.

  • I havnt seen any overt the counter tests but more than likly you could just use ph paper....
https://www.amnicator.com/   the above website says " that normal vaginal pH at term ranges between 4.5-6.0 and amniotic fluid is usually 7.0-7.5. By means of a simple pH colour change of the Nitrazine yellow, which has a sharp end point, (6.4-6.8), exactly in the desired pH range"

I would asumme you could find the paper strips at CVS.

  • If you are concerned, call your Dr!  Don't try to figure it out yourself!
