Kiddie pool - do you dump the water every night?

We have a kiddie pool that is on the larger side - about 60" wide and maybe 2 feet deep.  I don't really want to dump the water each night cause it takes so long to warm up new water, but also can't seem to find a good way to cover it up overnight and keep the bugs/dirt etc out.  Ideas?

  • I dump it.  I bathe DD in it, so I put new water in it each day.  It is pretty hot here, so I don't worry much about it not being warm.  My neighbor often bathes her son in it too, or we have some other kids over for a playdate, so it probably saves water over giving them all baths.

  • i dump it. our Chemlawn guy told us to be really careful about standing water in kiddie pools. he said bugs lay eggs in the water and if ds put his hand in the water and then in his mouth...you get where im going with this. yuck!

  • We had a pool like the one you're describing. I saw covers for them at TRU, however, we didn't get one, nor did we dump it for a while. It got nasty and slippery, so DS never went in it anyway. I would dump it at least every other day if you do cover it. It was a breeding ground for bugs and gross stuff that grows in still water.

  • We dump ours each time we use it.
  • When we had a large one set up, we'd dump it every few days. I put bleach in it at night on the days we didn't dump it.  Somewhere online I found some instructions on how much bleach to use based on the size of the pool.
  • i dump it. ?ours isn't quite as big though
