Is it just me, or do multiple replies to posts 8, 10, and 12 or more hours old look suspicious to you? Without the usual preface of "I know I'm late to this, but..." And said post isn't something like GP Mamas/Babies or a poll that is meant to reach GPers who work at different hours.
Perhaps I'm just PMSing, which would actually be great right now thanks to this never-ending cycle, but I just wanna give those posters the side-eye. And when I see this happening on GP and BOTB during slower times, I give the squinty side-eye.
I know how easy it is to auto reply and not pay attention to a the original post date , but I don't think this is the case. Especially when the replies to different threads are within a minute or sometimes seconds of each other. And when someone replies to a post about dinner on Sat. night after 0800 Sunday.
So I suppose this is more a vent with a side of warning for said suspicious posters. If you're lurking right now and see this, remember that many peeps have their settings to last post reply and not original post date, so this stuff is noticed! And a word of warning, don't do this during a busy time or you will be flamed into ashes.
Actually, please don't do this at all! It's rather annoying and even confusing to someone half awake and bumping.
Re: Suspicious posting? (slight vent)
OMG, I was just thinking about this and then you posted it! I think some people don't realize that many of us have our setitngs to "last post date" instead of "original post date" and that we can see when they're making useless posts in old threads to up their post count.
Good bust.
I think I caught the tail end of that problem last week, hence my reference to making a mistake with auto-posting.
I suppose the reason I brought it up again is that it's been going on all day on multiple boards.
Feel free to bring out the "Beating a dead horse," I know I deserve it.
An honest mistake is one thing. Or replying to a BFP, or to a request for prayers/support...that is understandable. But chiming in about your dinner nearly 12 hours later? I just don't get it.
Flame away if you must, I don't care what people think. The "KK2004 chick" has been on vacation and is trying to catch up on 4 days worth of posts.
Just change filters at the bottom of the page to say "last reply date" instead of original.
No problems! Honest mistakes happen to most people. And some threads deserve to go on and on. I think I remember a few BFP posts that were replied to for days.
I can't see you wasting what bump time you have on the weekend unnecessarily replying to a post about dinner the night before, or who was here for an hour while you were at work.
I won't claim to e-know you, but I have this feeling you don't work that way.
I read posts if I've been away from the board, and I might post on a BFP or prayer post, but you're just cluttering the page with useless replies to old posts. Do you have a weekly quota or something? Tacky.
LMAO! Case in point, this post.
I'm sure the OP here was glad to see someone wishing her goodnight when she was probably already up for the day.
I don't think there's anything wrong with replying to an interesting convo, a BFP, or some other intriguing thread a day late. It keeps them going. However, the Saturday dinner update on a Sunday is totally bizzarre.
I haven't been here all day so maybe I missed something.
True. That is a little much.
I wouldn't have noticed myself except that I wasn't on much yesterday, so I was checking older posts to catch up at 0845 before I got ready to leave. The suspicious posts were at the top of the page at that time.
I remembered to check when I got home this afternoon and took a peek at the posts in question, and then checked out BOTB to find much of the same stuff.
Well since you don't care so much but took the time to respond, either you are trying to up your post count or you just really think we give a shiit about your opinion from 4 days ago. In case you're wondering... we don't.
Thank you. That's all it takes is to do something ONE time and people flip out. Shoot me now, I was on vacation and kept replying to posts and no, I wasn't looking at the date, I just went back about three or four pages. I didn't know that was a major crime around here.
Good points by both of you ladies.
For me, having my settings on last reply in stead of original date makes sense to me. If I've been away for more than a few days, then I use original date to catch up, otherwise I like to keep up with the posts where the conversations are going on. Most of the time when people bring up old posts it's for a good reason, and thus doesn't bother me.
I suppose it was my annoyance with the goings on today and general bitchyness that trumped my common sense in regards to posting.
I like sorting the way that I do, and it works for me 95% of the time. I do respond to older posts when the comment is still relevant and it makes sense. We can just agree to disagree here, that's cool.
KK - I don't think you need to be that dramatic. When the whole first page at one point today was full of your sn as you were the last one to post, that isn't one time.
Wow!? This really bothers people? I am completely guilty, (obviously b/c I am 'late' on this post). I never thought anything of it!
I like to "catch up" on old posts and I often respond if I feel I have something to add
I agree, posting to get your numbers up seems really odd to me, but doing something like that never even crossed my mind!
I don't think people should be discouraged from posting just because you have placed an arbitrary "expiration" on responses. That seems really silly to me
