Over a year ago I tried ProActive. I washed my face twice with it and had the most horrible allergic-type reaction to it. I would say it was like a chemical peel gone very wrong, but I've never actually had a chemical peel. My face was red like the worst sunburn and my skin felt tight and raw. Needless to say, I discontinued use and sent it back.
I decided to try AcneFree. I tested it yesterday morning on one little spot on my cheek and it was fine, so last night I washed my whole face with it. Today, I'm suffering with the same reaction I had from ProActive and I'm pissed and feeling stupid for thinking this might work for me.
I've never had this reaction to the over-the-counter stuff or prescriptions from the Dermatolgist (which my ins no longer covers), but nothing has ever really worked for me either. Ugh. I just want to have pretty, clean, & clear skin.
I don't know if I should even bother trying the "sensitive" version when this reaction clears up or if I should just give up. Now I have to go out in public with this face. Grrr.
Re: Stupid and angry - RE: acne
I used ortho tri cyclen before we were ttc, and it didn't make a difference. Right now I'm EBF so I'm limited on bc options. Thank you for the suggestion though!

both pro-active and acne free use benzoyl peroxide as their main ingredients. i'm allergic to benzoyl peroxide and get a horrible red itchy rash too.
read labels and avoid the benzoyl peroxide!! it does suck but hopefully you can avoid the rash.
(my skin sucks too. i hate it. big red zits like a 15-year old would have. yuck.)
Have you found any product that does work for you? Maybe with Salicylic Acid as the active ingredient?
haha nope. i'm chalking it all up to hormones, my skin was much worse during pg and now then ever before. but then again i was on the pill for the last 10 years so i don't really know what it would have been like without that.
i wasn't using any salicylic acid stuff during pg so hopefully now that i can again it will start clearing up. i have the clean and clear spot treatment (it's a gel), that used to sort of work...we'll see!
good luck!
