Maybe a dumb question....What do you do with all your time at the hospital??? I am being induced on Wednesday, and they told me to prepare to be there for a LONG time, as I am still 'long and closed' (they need to take baby a week early because growth has slowed
)
I don't really read anything but magazines (and baby books
)...and I am not sure if they have DVD players at the hospital. Dh and I are wondering how we are going to pass the 48 hours (or more) that it may take for things to even get started...
Re: For those of you who had a LONG induction...
Call the L&D unit and ask them if they have DVD players. That way, you can at least bring some movies. I wasn't induced but my friend was and she brought a journal - she kept track of what was going on and also finished her pregnancy journal up. Make plans for your friends to visit you. Learn to knit (I'm dead serious....my friend was so bored that I came up with yarn and needles and taught her how to knit!)
I was there for 4 days (96 hours) and never once took out my books, magazines, ipod. I talked on the phone. Some friends came by and we talked everyday. DH was there and we talked. Doctors and nurses were in the room every hours for 10-15m. DH and I walked a ton, watched tv and napped. It was fun honestly.
EDIT: I just read all the responses and find it funny that I was the only one not bored.
Oh we took our travel DVD player, I think I only watched one movie. DH did not stay the first 2 nights, I took an ambien at 9pm and slept and we started again at 6am the next day.
We watched DVDs -- How I Met Your Mother -- and played on Facebook for the nine hours before I got pitocin. We brought movies but didn't watch them. Then, I slept off and on while my labor started.
We talked on the phone some, and I brought some cards but we didn't use them. I also read some non-baby magazines to familiarize myself with the outside world.
Good luck!
