Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

? about hcg and progesterone levels

First of all, hello. I've been lurking here for some time but haven't posted yet. I wish I didn't have to be posting on this board. A quick introduction...

?My husband and I started TTC in March, had a regular AF on May 1, then one that was really light on May 25 (and short - 2.5 days). I got a BFP on June 6th and went in for a blood test to confirm on the 8th. I had a little spotting, but didn't think too much of it.

?On Wednesday I found out my levels were very low - hcg = 29 (normal would have been 50-900 or so), and progesterone was 1.7 (versus what should have been 11). I was told that it was a miscarriage ?and to come in to get monitored until it goes back to 0. I got more blood word done Thursday and those show an increase in both hcg (now 54) and progesterone (now 3.0). I'm still spotting for the 6th day and just wanting it to go away.

?The doctor now thinks my progesterone might naturally be low, which could be part of the problem. Have any of you had a problem with the progesterone? What's a normal level pre-pregnancy??

?It looks like a lot of blood draws are in my future...?

?

Re: ? about hcg and progesterone levels

  • i have no idea. when i was pregnant, i didn't get a blood test until my 8 week appointment, and even then they didn't tell me what my levels are. i wish the best for you!

  • It's good to hear from someone, someflower6. Progesterone is something that's so hard to find info on online, except for that it increases during pregnancy and it being too low can be a factor in a m/c.?
  • so are they still keeping an eye on you and taking blood to check your levels, in case you aren't miscarrying?
  • Well, they're checking the levels to see if the pregnancy will totally end itself naturally... Watching to see the hcg go down to 0. I can FEEL the difference - earlier this week, I had some mild pregnancy symptoms; now, I have none. So I'm going to continue going back weekly to monitor the levels before I (hopefully) get a regular AF in the near future.
  • i hope so too! i'm really sorry for your loss though, i know it's hard... but the better things are "back on track", the sooner you can start to recovery emotionally as well as physically. best to you!
  • You can be supplemented with progesterone vaginally, by injection or with topical creams which I would def ask about. I am sorry for your loss.
  • IF you have naturally low progesterone levels then you need to have them monitored.  I had low progesterone levels and was put on progesterone gel 2 times a day after my BFP.  I have endometriosis and low progesterone is very common in women with endo.  They need to be on top of your levels to have a successful pregnancy.  Good luck, progesterone helped my levels go up so I think it is a pretty easy fix.
  • So I did end up finding some information on normal progesterone levels, and mine while "pregnant" (during the m/c) was even lower than what is normal during the second half of a menstrual cycle. :(
