I'm actually going to call my doc about it this week. It's been steadily getting shorter and lighter since the miscarriage. This last one was 2.5 days of spotting, 2 light days (broken up between beginning and end of AF), half of a medium day, and then another 1.5 days of spotting at the end. I don't know if it will cause problems but it's definitely not normal for me.

I'm really worried that's what mine is going to say as well! I know that it can take cycles a while to stabilize after an m/c, and I know that they change as you get older, but it's been such a steady decline that in another cycle or two, I'm not going to have ANY flow at all - just spotting! I'll definitely let you know what she says - my google research says that maybe progesterone or baby aspirin could help (not sure why the aspirin?), but that's just google lol.

I have heard of the baby aspirin as well but have heard that if you aren't supposed to take it then you shouldn't....guess i'll have to wait til august!

Yup, that's why I'm not taking it quite yet - odds are that in a dosage that tiny it probably wouldn't hurt regardless, but I want to check with my doc first.

  • I have had this happen from time to time but never every month. I am on the baby aspirin now, so I am interested to see if it makes a difference with anything else.

  • Yes.  I've had 2 AF post m/c and they both had 2 days of brown spotting then 1 1/2 days of heavy flow then 1 - 2 days of brown spotting again.  I'm not worried - should I be?

Before the m/c I had 1 AF after going of BC and it was 5 days straight of the worst AF since I was 12.  Of course on BC it was a managable 4 days of medium flow.

There's a lot of debate about whether it's a bad thing or not. Some docs say that it doesn't matter, as long as there's a flow at some stage. Others say that if it's too short or light, it can negatively affect your ability to create a nice thick uterine lining.

I probably wouldn't be worried except that this is very, very unusual for me. Pre-BCP, I had extremely heavy periods - more than 7 days long, and 3-4 of those days would be VERY heavy flow. Even while I was on BCP, it was still 5 days long with 1-2 days of heavy flow. So you can see what I mean when I say this is unusual for me! Plus my flow is now literally getting one day shorter every cycle, and at this rate it's going to disappear altogether in a couple cycles, and that just can't be normal.

But, all of that said - if your cycles are normally relatively light (not a lot of heavy flow), and you're only down to 3 days instead of 4-5, I probably wouldn't worry about it too much.

  • Before my m/c I would have periods that was basically 3 days of spotting.  I would only need panty liners.  I asked my OB and she said thats fine, and not to want more then that.
