Really dumb Q re: Playtex drop-ins

I just bought one of these bottles for the first time, since my DD wasn't taking any of the other ones we tried.  She likes it--hallelujah!  I'm wondering, though, if the measurements on the outside of the bottle (ounces) are accurate--it seems hard to measure how much water I'm putting in to make the formula, because of the drop-in.  Am I supposed to measure it separately and put the finished formula in the drop-in, or can I trust to just do it in the bottle?

Re: Really dumb Q re: Playtex drop-ins

  • i was just thinking this the other day bc we're going to start formula in a month or so.

i think the markings are accurate but i would still mix it seperately and pour it in the baggie.

i'm going to buy one of those rubbermaid water bottle thingys and shake it up and pour into individual bottles.

  • I go off the measurements on the drop in itself...not the bottle.  Mixing in another container would be a waste of time

  • I've noticed that it depends on the brand of liner.  The playtex ones actually seemed a little off to me, but the target brand seems correct so with those I go by the measurements on the bottle.

  • I breastfeed, but occaisionally supplement with formula.  I actually use a cheapie evenflo bottle to measure the water.  So, I put the formula powder in the drop-in and then measure the water in the evenflo bottle and then pour it in the liner.  I like to make sure the water is measured correctly.  =)
  • I found that neither the marking on the bottle or the liner were correct.  BC of this J was getting too much powder and it made her constipated.  Now we measure her bottles out with a measuring cup just to be sure the ratio of water to formula is correct.
  • I don't fully trust the measurements on the bottle. I agree that the Target brand drop ins are more acurate. Usually, I measure the water out in another container and mix the water/formula in the drop in.  DH was making the formula in a separate bottle and then pouring it in. I started getting aggravated cause it was causing too many things to be cleaned.  Our dishwasher sucks so we clean everything by hand.  I got the drop ins to avoid cleaning/steralizing bottles all the time. The nipples and rings are enough to keep up with.
