Babies: 0 - 3 Months

if your baby has acne or dry skin......

my baby has a bunch of bumps on her face and upper back and the areas are all red/pink.  the pedi said it's dry skin and to use cetaphil soap and lotion.  if your baby has acne/dry skin what do you use on the areas and how often do you wash/moisturize the area?  also, how bad is the acne on your baby?  it seems like my baby has it pretty bad.

Re: if your baby has acne or dry skin......

  • My dd had acne from weeks 4-6, but I would not have described it as bad.  I never used soap on it, just a cotton pad dipped in water during her evening bath.  If she had a particulary aggravated looking bump, I would put a small amount of breastmilk on it, and it seemed to really help with the redness/swelling.

  • Ds had acne, we just used a wet washcloth on his face no soap or lotions
  • You don't need to do anything to it- no moisturizer or soap.  It will go away on its own.  Some babies get it really bad, some babies don't get it at all.  You only need to bathe baby every 2-3 days & don't even need to use soap- water is just fine.
