DD went to bed last night at 8pm (as usual) and then at 3:30am, she woke up whining. When she couldn't soothe herself, she resorted to screaming. I found that she had soaked herself, so I went to change her, and she screamed the whole time.
Then when she went back down, she tried her best to go back to sleep, but then after about 45 minutes of almost making it to slumberland, she started wailing. I picked her up, nursed her and she fell asleep. I put her down.
About an hour later, she was up, freaking out. I tried to console her and it took a while, but she calmed down and would only go to bed with me. (this is not like her). We did sleep training - it was a success and she's a super sleeper... this behaviour is not typical of her.
She woke up this morning, next to me, screaming. I scoop her up and I try everything to soothe her. I took her for a diaper change - kid screamed the whole time, and looked at me with squinty eyes, and just wasn't herself.
After I get a good look, her nose is running, and her left eye is running (no yellow or pus, so I know it's not pink eye). She keeps rubbing it, so it's read. No fever. Definitely upset, and tired. Wants to suck her thumb and sleep but keeps rubbing her one eye and spitting drool out at me (like raspberries - she just learned this trick) but while sucking her thumb.
Could it be teething? She's been chomping on things and drooling and having red cheeks for MONTHS, but this is different. I know the sinal nerve runs right up the face, so it could be, but I dunno. We did go for a walk after supper last night and the pollens were floating all over - could it be allergies? But would allergies have her that miserable that she cries when I lay her flat?
I gave her some Motrin b/c she was really off and not happy. She played happily for short periods. Her left eye is looking better, but at times she rubs it and it runs. The Motrin seems to have kicked in, b/c she allowed me to lay her down to sleep.
Any ideas? Teething? Allergies? what could it be?
I was going to start cereal with her today, but am thinking maybe I should hold off if she's getting sick (yet no fever). If she's compliant, I may try cereal at lunch. What would you do?
Re: Teething? Allergies? wtf? (sort of long)
I too, sense it's a bit of both.
She's had a white spot under the gums (lower middle to the left/her right) since 8 weeks but in the last little while, it has widened. I can feel it under the gum when I rub my finger along the gumline.
I know that the pollens are really bugging me lately. I had itchy eyes all week. But I did have DD with me at the baby shower that I attended (outdoors) last weekend, and I got the itchy eyes, but not her.
Now we're both itchy. If it's a blocked tear duct, what would indicate that?
If it's not improving by Monday, I'll call the doctor. Maybe she does need some benedryl
According to my dr. babies can have allergies to something one week and then not the next... Carter's been getting better with the fluff now, but for 2 weeks was really bad.
Good luck.
