Babies: 0 - 3 Months

tired of "that will change" speak

annoying.  my LO who is almost 18 weeks has been sleeping through the night 10-12 hours since 7 weeks.  ever since he started everyone loves to say "oh dont worry that will change". ha ha wink wink.  esp.  other moms who axtually get bitter about this.  but im not listening anymore...considering he never wakes unless he has a massive poo, my baby just likes his sleep.  sometimes we will hear him wake up for a few minutes, laugh and talk to himself, and then fall back asleep (it's so cute btw)  it's annoying how so many women want to rain on your parade if you have a good sleeper. (now when he teethes okay, im expecting a change, but i still think he will sleep decently)

Re: tired of "that will change" speak

  • I hope it doesn't change for you either- I need some inspiration!  How many times a night did he wake before he STTN?  Say around 4 weeks? (I'm grasping at straws in case you can't tell!) Wink

  • It works in the opposite direction too. ?DS just got diagnosed with reflux, but I hesitated to even take him into the doctor b/c everyone said, "he's a baby, of course he cries alot!" ?

Well, I finally followed my instinct that all the crying wasn't normal, and sure enough the poor kid has reflux.

Anyway, I`m glad your LO STTN. ?Everyone will have their ups and downs with STTN. ?No one needs to get your down about it. ?They are probably just jealous that their babies had trouble sleeping. ?I know I`m jealous of your good sleeper!?

I think they just mean to expect the changes when teething and milestones come up.  I don't think most people want to piss on your parade.  Just giving you a head's up.

  • by 4 weeks he was sleeping about 5 or 6 hours straight.  he would wake up once or twice at that point in the night. 7 weeks was when he started sleeping 9 hours (i couldnt believe it).  i do not think this is very common but i have nothing to compare it too. i do realize that im lucky though.  all i know is that i feel blessed bc i am very well rested for someone who just had a baby 4 months ago!  i used to listen to people more bc i didnt know any better and just figured other moms had more experience - but it's true what they say - that the mother knows their children best.  i honestly dont think my LO will have many issues sleeping while teething.  the days might be nightmares but i just know he will still be a decent sleeper. not as good as he is now, but i dont think i will be going back to getting 2-4 hours a sleep at night.
  • actually, i do think some of them want to piss on my parade.  sorry to rain on your parade, but some women get very jealous about stuff like this. - and i dont think this is a totally unheard of development - there are a lot of nice moms out there and a lot of bitchy ones who like to compare everything.  i've been hearing "that will change"  etc etc regarding his sleep habits, since he was 2 months old, and far away from the teething process.  some women think it's great, others are jealous.  it's obvious by the way they say something/react to things.  just like it's obvious when others are being genuinely nice.

Sure, there are some.  I guess all I can say is get used to it because you're going to get it a lot with all stages.  People don't realize how they are coming off.

Another one you might get a lot is people telling you your next child will be a bad sleeper.  People seem to like to think that if you have an easy baby/good sleeper/good eater that the next child will be hell-on-wheels.  Annoying.

  • I think they're saying this b/c a lot of babies go through periods where they wake up in the night, even though they STTN early on.  But I don't think that always has to be the case. My mom told me that I STTN by 6 weeks old, and never stopped.  I am sooooo jealous! Neither of my kids STTN at that age. DD STTN at about 8 mos. old (probably b/c she didn't get to 16 lbs until she was a year old). But DS still doesn't STTN and he is 5 mos. old and already weighs 16 lbs. You're lucky!
