clomid stopped working

I'm new to the board (well been lurking a while but not posting), ttc for 2 years, seeing an RE for 13 months.  he is very methodical and conservative in his approach which i am ok with.  after several months of testing (blood, ultrasound, etc.) we start clomid.  100mg worked!  for 2 months, then as soon as we completed all the tests related to that and we get to the mid-cycle ultrasounds 100mg stops working!  he said he is not sure why because usually once you find a dose that works it is predictable and continues to work.  so 150mg this month and still nothing!  200mg next month (keeping our fingers crossed) then its on to injectibles.  anyone else have clomid just mysteriously stop working?  did upping the dose help?  i know everyone is different but just trying to get some perspective.

    I have read anecdotal stories on message boards about clomid not working as well the more cycles you take it.  Some women suggest taking a break and then coming back to it at your starting dose.  You can google this.

    Of course, this is the type of thing you pay your RE to counsel you on, so ask him/her for his opinion. 

    After 3 clomid cycles at 100mg, I am taking a break this cycle and will probably try one more cycle next month before moving on to IVF.
