WAMU to Chase also recommend your bank

Am I the only one that is hating that WAMU is now Chase?  It's like a light switch.  Both branches that are near us, the customer service is horrid, the tellers take forever, etc.  I don't like it.  Any WAMUers switching?  Any new bank recommendations?

Re: WAMU to Chase also recommend your bank

  • Ugh, I HATE it too. They used to have great customer service, and now its like you are bothering them. I am thinking of switching too. We have a joint account through BECU, which I love love love! I think my personal account will be through them soon!

  • We only bank with BECU now. I highly recommend them!
  • I'm a WaMu to Chase, too.  I liked WaMu for the most part, but I had the same complaint as a lot of people about fees and charges.  I'd have to call to get them reversed all the time.  But I have a big chip on my shoulder against Chase b/c when I was having credit card trouble, they were like attack dogs with the phone calls, mail, threats, etc... even though I went to them first to ask for help before it got bad.

Anyway, I'm still with them for now (mostly b/c I'm lazy).  DH has banked at BECU for a long time and we have joint accounts there.  I'll probably switch my checking there.  The downside is they don't have enough convenient locations.  I want access to tellers and ATMs near both work and home.

  • BECU hands down.  They have really expanded with the local service centers inside safeway (and some external) but I really never find myself needing to go in.  (about 3 times in 13 years)

  • Not sure why teller service would change.  It's all the same employees in the actual branches. I haven't found any problems there.

BUT online and phone customer service is the PITS.  I spent an hour on the phone this week, trying to block a merchant from charging my account and I'm sorry, but I love my peeps across the ocean, but I need to talk to someone who isn't reading from a script.  It was HORRIBLE. And then at the end of the call JUST when I was starting to make headway on my problem, the PHONE LINE DROPPED.  Theirs not mine. I'm convinced some of the customer service people just "accidentally" hang up on you when they don't want to deal with you anymore.

We've always kept another bank account at a credit union though.  So if Chase becomes unbearable, we'll switch over.

  • I actually like the switch and I shouldn't seeing that the online switch over with all dh's hard work down the drain!  ( he was the senior engineer behind wamu.com) However I HATED calling wamu.com it was awful and impossible to get a real person and its a bit easier with chase.

I suspect that their online site will get quicker as they are still trying to deal with the huge new overload of this new migration.

I have loved chase for years as I have had credit cards with them and its cool to just have to go to one site for all of that.  Chase is in my opinion one of the better banks to deal with, BOA is AWFUL and I'm not a big wells fargo fan.  I also don't like credit unions because I want to be able to deposit checks and have it be convienient not drive all over or have to mail them to deposit this is the main reason we don't just bank with Charles schwab which we really should.

I would really suggest you give chase a chance.

BTW all those tellers and customer service at the branches are the same people you have always dealt with, they are former wamu employees.

I know they are the same, which is super weird.  It's almost like they are disgruntled or that they have reduced staff and they are all super busy now or something.  I don't know, but I seriously have had to wait more than 5 minutes the past four times I've gone to the drive thru at Chase - even when I'm the only car in line.  I have to push the call button several times and then they don't even talk to me, just take my stuff, process it, and then send it back.  If they do talk to me, it's all snobby.  It's weird and at two different locations.  James has dealt with it, too, and a lady in the drive thru line rolled down her window to tell me that she missed WAMU.

  • We have Key and love them.  The downtown branches are the best, had some issues with the Eastside smaller ones, but I can always count on the 2nd & Marion branch.

  • Yeah I just got an offer to open an account from Chase...even though I've had a WAMU CC forever.

I'm with BECU, and I really like them. No problems to speak of and great cs when I actually interact with real people. :)

  • I LOVE BECU!!  We actually bank at BOA right now but we have opened accounts up at BECU.  This is going to sound weird but I've always wanted to bank there.  Back in the day I use to work retail and would go to different banks in the area to collect funds on bad checks and I always loved the customer service at BECU.  The really do have the most friendly and helpful staff plus you can watch TV while you are in line. lol
