I'm looking for a good digital camera that will take good pictures of the baby. The camera I have right now (Sony Cybershot - 5 years old) is horrible for kids because the flash is very bright and flashes twice, so often the kids' eyes will be closed or they'll be turned around because they think the picture was already taken the first time the flashbulb went off.
I do not want a camera that requires four batteries as my experience with those kind of cameras have not been positive. The batteries tend to die very quickly.
I was thinking of the Canon Powershot based on some of the reviews that said it worked well with children. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8800577&type=product&id=1205538350143
I am open to other suggestions!
Re: Recommendations for digital cameras?
What's your budget?
And FWIW, I have a newer Cybershot as my cheapie camera. I've never had issues with the flash and taking photos of DD - you just need to have the settings correct.
Canon's are the best. I have a powershot and the big Rebel xsi and love both of them. Plus they both use the lithium batteries that are rechargeable. They work really well and last a long time
If you want a website that gives good reviews of like every camera out there try checking out www.stevesdigicams.com ...Hope that helps.

I have the older 12MP version of this. We solely used a Pentax 35mm SLR before this, but I think it takes just as good (if not better) pictures. I didn't really want a kodak camera either, but it was clearanced for $106. I couldn't pass it up. The only time it does a double flash is if the red eye is on, you can turn it off.
My budget is up to $200. I can try out a Cybershot in the store to see if it doesn't do what my old camera does.

I have the Nikon Coolpix that is small enough to fit in your pocket and it was under $300. The picture quality is great, battery life great and unbeatable size.
Some of the Nikon Coolpix P&S cameras have Lithium Ion batteries opposed to the 4 AA's. MIL just bought one for $200, but there's a model below it for $140. Canon PowerShot's probably use AA's, as that's all I've ever seen.
If you are willing to move up to an SLR I think you'll be more pleased with the results as the shutter is faster and they do better in low light.
BTW - Cameras have come a LONG way in 5 years. As long as you don't go too cheap, you'll be fine.
I'm getting this one based on reviews and its optical zoom. Its $225 in stores.
