Movements vs hiccups

How can you tell that baby has the hiccups? Right now, I feel pretty steady movements (mostly in the morning and at night), but I couldn't tell you what it was! I haven't had a real definite kick yet, but I know he's still so small and it's early. I'm just wondering if it's easy to tell the difference between flips, kicks, and hiccups.

Re: Movements vs hiccups

  • You're still pretty early, you're more than likely feeling movements.  Movements are pretty irregular, and hiccups will feel almost like a twitch that happens every few seconds for several minutes.

I didn't feel hiccups until about 25 weeks.

ETA:  Also, when you get further along, the flips will feel like a steady roll, sometimes like your stomach is dropping.  Lately, I've been feeling knees or feet actually roll from one side of my belly to the other (almos tlike I could track them with my fingertips).  Kicks get a lot sharper and stronger.  Don't worry!  Enjoy it!  Pretty soon, LO will be shoving his/her feet up into your ribs, which is totally NOT comfortable.

    Hope that helps!

  • I didn't start feeling hiccups until about 34 weeks or so. Hiccups make your stomach twitch in a pretty consistant pattern.  I think once a few more weeks go by, you'll really be able to tell the difference.

  • You won't feel hiccups until much later.  I think I first felt them around 30wks or so.  You'll know it when you feel it because it's very rhythmic.
