I was given a welcome book today for the children's clinic affiliated with the hospital I'm birthing at. ?There's 9 doctors and their bios in it and the nurse who gave it to me named a few of the "favorites" and told me to pick from there if i wanted. ?I asked if I couldn't meet with them first and she said I could in such a way that I was waiting for her to add a "but," although she never did. ?Why wouldn't I want to meet them first?? ?Is anyone just going with a random pediatrician?
Re: Anyone NOT interviewing pediatricians?
This probably isn't the answer you're looking for, but I'm not "interviewing" my pediatrician. The only reason I'm not is because she was MY pediatrician when I was young, and she knows me pretty well.
If you're more comfortable meeting with the pediatricians, by all means, set up an appointment. This is your baby, not the nurse's - you need to be reassured.
DH and I decided on our pediatrician a few weeks ago - without an interview. My OB's nurses told me their favorites and gave a basic run-down of each one and their practices. My BIL also worked with our pediatrician on a few rotations from his job as a physician's assistant. Both BIL and SIL say they would go to him in a heartbeat with their kids, and we completely trust them.
DH and I probably would have interviewed, but we trusted our medical staff and family, not to mention our schedules are completely opposite these days and we didn't have time!
This. One of the joys of living in a small town! I've never heard anyone complain so I don't see why we need to drive an hour to see a different one.
Thanks for the input! ?I don't have any friends or family in my area to glean recs from, so I guess maybe that's why I'm kind of bent on speaking to them first. ?Its nice to have a catalog of docs to choose from though! ?
?
JCM - Have there been no more meetups? ?I haven't gotten any emails lately.?
same here!
i'm not.
my ob recommended a practice - he sends his kids there and likes it. i looked at their site and they have what they believe and about each doctor and their policies, and it looks good to me. they are affiliated with the hospital where i will deliver, so they are already on my chart as being the peds, so they will be alerted when my LO is born and will come and see him.
I'm using my friends pedi. She was refered to this guy by a Dr she worked at in the ER. And I figured if a Dr will bring his child to this Dr than he must be pretty good. Not to mention my friend likes him as well and has no complaints and...
I've seen a picture of him and what is wrong with a little eye candy when you bring your LO in for check-ups.
