I'm toying with the idea on whether I want music to play while I'm in active labor/transitioning/pushing. My childbirth class instructor recommended classical music, which is fine, its soothing and whatnot. But then I thought "wouldn't some adrenaline-inducing music be a little more effective?" I'm talking about Rammstein, old school Metallica and Tool. Then again there's something a little absurd about playing hardcore-ish metal while I'm delivering a sweet, innocent baby girl. I mean, when they place her on my tummy, do I really want to hear "DU.... DU HAST... DU HAST MICH!" in the background??
LOL.... What music would you play?
Re: Music preference during labor
I'm not planning on music but if you want a compromise of heavy and classical, someone posted this yesterday and I thought it was pretty cool:

This! Every time I had a contraction I demanded absolute silence until it was over. I could not stand to have noise or to be touched during one.
I listened to a lot of music to try to figure out what relaxes me, and I realized that when I'm in that much pain I'm not going to want any actual music on. I thought about what relaxes me the most and its being outside.
I have a CD that sounds like rain and another one that sounds like the ocean that I'll be bringing. I know it sounds incredibly cheesy and I'm quite embarassed to be doing something so "crunchy", but I know it'll help. It works wonders during yoga
I'd like to make a few mixes of the music that makes me smile and is like a hug to me (cheeeeese, i know) - mostly Indigo Girls, James Taylor, and maybe some musical soundtracks.
Like pps said though, when it comes time, I might be screaming to have someone shut it off!
Sounds nice, I think I should pick up a cd of ambient noises too.
I def think it is better to have something in there that you can relate to and can help make you comfortable - no matter what it is.
Right now I am on a Kings of Leon kick so unless I wear myself out with that I will prolly do them and...
