SO: I don't like Disney parks

Before you try to convince me otherwise. I have been 5 times in my life & I've been to all the parks. The last time I went was in 2002 - so as an adult. I really don't plan to ever go again. I think it's overrated and too expensive.The crowds are not fun (oh, and I've been in the off season too, still not appealing) and if you look around, there are more screaming kids than smiling ones. I did not think it was the happiest place on earth! The only way I'd voluntarily go back is if I won a free trip or something and can afford to take a nanny! (I went twice AS a nanny, so that could be part of my cynicism).

My parents have volunteered to take Kate and any future children we have and I couldn't be more thrilled. The kids get the experience and get to spend time with their grandparents, and DH and I will have a trip to the Caribbean or Europe when they go.

    It's OK, Lori. Truth be told, I don't really like going to the beach! LOL! I mean ... it's OK for about 30 minutes or an hour, but then I am ready to do something else. hahaha! I don't like too much sun ... or too much sand. I have fair skin, and I burn easily. Anyway ...

    I am not a huge fan of Disney, either. I mean ... I don't *hate* Disney, but if we don't ever go, I don't think I will be disappointed. I have been once, in third grade. I am pretty sure it was fun. I can't remember. LOL! My sister recently took her family, and they had a BLAST. Her girls were five and seven, which I think are ideal ages for going. I was in shock and awe at all of the research ... the work ... the money that went into their trip. (My sister doesn't do anything half-assed.) She got some great deals, but she had to work for them (as in ... booking character meals way in advance, being on hold forever, etc., etc.) Anyway, we all have our likes and dislikes, etc., which makes life more interesting. :o)

    I kinda agree with you. I've been to Disney twice: once with my parents and the second time as an adult. The adult trip was an all-expenses paid trip with my company to Epcot, MGM, Disney World, and the Animal Kingdom too. We were in Orlando for a builder's convention and my bosses were Disney freaks. It was fun. It was in January, so it wasn't too crowded. The rides were only slightly better than how I remembered them when i was 9.

    Geneva probably will be around 10 before she ever sees the inside of the park.

    I would imagine that the Nanny perspective has a lot to do with that- that would suck, IMO.  I know that for some people, the whole experience is not worthwhile- too hot, crowded, and expensive.  For me, it brings back happy childhood memories and really, there is nothing better to me than experiencing it with a kid for their first time- you know when they are old enough to "get it." I have insisted on being there for the first time with each of my nieces and nephews... that moment when they first meet Mickey Mouse- priceless.

    I'm not a huge Disney fan, but DH loves it for some reason.  However, I would go at least once, just to see how my children react and enjoy the experience with them.  If they loved it, I would hate to have missed out on that experience, you know?  I'm sure as a parent I'll have to do a lot of things my kids like that I don't!  :-)

    I'm not a fan.  BUT - kids love it and I WILL take DD when she is old enough to appreciate it.  I think through DD's eyes, it might be more "magical" because sweating through a crowd isn't my idea of fun either.

    BTW - lowest attendance day of the year = Superbowl Sunday.  I went once and it was awesome.  No lines for everything.  It was just me, my brother, and asian tourists.

    Well, since you are asking, I will say, I am not a Disney fan at all. ?I just figure I have no choice but to go at some point. ?I don't see how I can avoid it.?

    My friend once said she couldn't wait for us to take a group vacation with our girls there and I said, "I'll give you the money and you guys can take Evie with you."?

    I guess I'm so different, I love Disney...always have. My parents couldn't afford to take us but once as a kid so I guess I feel like I missed out on the whole experience. The boys LOVE micket mouse and all his friends. We're going in August and I can't wait! I don't care for crowds or the hot weather either, but I can't wait to see the boys reaction to everything!

    I don't hate Disney but I don't love it either!  We went a lot as kids mainly for the fact that it was close and my grandmother always loved taking us.  When I went this past February with DH he was not impressed.  We kept saying the whole time we were there how cool it will be when the boys are old enough to enjoy it.  That's the part that I think I will enjoy the most:) 

    But I'm with you...I could do without the crowds, heat and expense of it all!

    Just to see how the kids react is the only way I would go. That is a good point. But still think the "wow" factor would be just at cool at the grand canyon or statue of liberty. Those are vacations I would enjoy more too :)

    No you not the only one at all! I hate Florida period. I only want to go for the kids.  When I took Nkosi it was 12 of us. It was the most expensive and the worse trip of my life.  2 weeks in Florida, 12 people who all wanted to do different things and we were trying to stick together.  Long lines.  Kids crying including my son.  Rude godchild who was on punishment everyday.  Long walking...lots of people...etc...blah blah blah.  I just know Nkosi would love to go again and really want it for him.

    Andy is like "we are never going"....which makes me sad as I would love to go and watch SArah experience.  He HATES crowds...which I do too, but you know I can also just go with the flow.  I will say I would probably also rather pay the $$ to go somewhere cool like Montana, Banff or a natural park out west - like glacier national park. Andy likes to snowboard, so he would probably prefer the budget on a trip somewhere for that which is ok by me.  I do want to go once though!

    Ha!  I don't either - it's because I grew up in Orlando!

    All of my family still lives there, though, and I'm sure there will be plenty of trips down there.  Hopefully I can convince his/her grandma or auntie to take them ;)
