we went through born free, avent, nuby... what ended up working was taking the 'valve' off the avent one, and having her sip from that.... now, she takes it with the valve...

HTH!
We did this too, but even with the avent or gerber cups without the valve she would only chew on it. Eventually she got the hang of the nuby and realized she had to suck on it and then she was fine with all cups.....so I don't know if it was the valve trick or just her learning curve.
These are what Lindsey used at her daycare and we love them. Not totally leakproof but great for just starting and super cheap (7 for 3.49). They would be similiar to taking the rubber disc out of the Avent ones. Now that L understand sippy cups, she is fine with most. Playtex stage 1 is great with the handles and I add handles to the Avent sippy/bottle.

When we started with sippy cups, we had the best luck with Think Baby. The spout is nipple-ish so I think that's maybe why it worked.
