8 week ultrasound...internal or external?

Going for an us...wondering what to expect. Is 8 wks far enough along to have an external us (rather than the...for lack of a better term...dildo-cam)?

The tech will probably try at first external but may need to do an internal. I had one last Monday at 9 weeks 5 days. She didn't have to do an internal.

I had an internal at 7 1/2 and then at 10 1/2. We were able to see the baby on the external at 10 1/2 but it was much clearer on the internal.

When I first saw that thing I looked at my husband and told him I wanted no part of that...it wasn't that bad though.

I measured 8w3d on Saturday. They did both an external and an internal. Because the tech wasn't allowed to tell us anything, I wasn't clear whether the internal was just for a better view, a cervical length check (I was a little dilated), or standard procedure. It appeared from the little I could see on the external that she got all her measurements, but like I said, I don't know the specific reason.

I had external at 7 weeks (I was getting ready to undo my pants, and the tech looked at me like I was crazy). I was surprised, since I had an internal just one week before.

Sounds like it depends on the OB and equipment they're using. I had an u/s at 6w1d, and it was external, but the nurse told me they would have done an internal if we hadn't been able to see anything. You'll want a full bladder for an external, but if you get there and find out it's going to be internal, you'll probably want to hit the restroom first!

This. But as unpleasant as the internal u/s sounds.. It wasn't as bad as you might expect. Sure, it's a little uncomfortable, but you will be so excited to see your baby that you will almost forget someone has a rod jammed up you. Wink

I had an internal today and measured at 9weeks 1 day. I didnt even notice the wand... All I could do is stare at my baby jumping around inside me!
